Last week, Kelly Clarkson had the Jonas Brothers as guests on NBC’s Songs & Stories, according to the 2025 TV schedule. This week, it was Gloria Estefan who joined Clarkson for a chat about her life and career. As I had seen the jukebox musical On Your Feet! based on Estefan’s story, I was eager to hear from the music icon herself and to listen to her duet with Clarkson. The two women sounded phenomenal together, and I wasn’t expecting the look of sheer awe on Clarkson’s face that I found absolutely endearing.
During an episode of Songs & Stories, streaming exclusively on Peacock the next day, Gloria Estefan joined forces with two other women to sing a variety of tunes. Kelly Clarkson revealed that she was particularly thrilled about “Mi Tierra,” despite her apprehension over the Spanish lyrics, and “Get On Your Feet” kicked off the show. However, when they reached “Turn the Beat Around,” these two divas truly captivated me for the evening.
Similar to me, Kelly Clarkson was unaware that Vicki Sue Robinson originally performed “Turn the Beat Around” before Gloria Estefan’s version. The harmonious blend of their voices is something I can’t get enough of, and I wish there were more duets from them available. The performance of “Turn the Beat Around” by these three women should definitely be seen to fully appreciate it. Here’s a link to watch: [insert video link here]
As a devoted fan, I must admit that while Kelly Clarkson often exudes professionalism on TV and in music, last night she seemed genuinely star-struck performing alongside Gloria Estefan. Despite sharing a stage with the Jonas Brothers who sang her named song just a week ago, it was clear that Estefan left a deeper impression. Initially, she seemed a bit stiff during their opening number “On Your Feet,” but as the night progressed and they performed “Turn the Beat Around,” she appeared more comfortable and even seemed to be enjoying herself more. In fact, at the end of their performance, I couldn’t help but notice her jumping out of her seat in sheer excitement, which only made the entire performance even more endearing to witness.
Given Clarkson’s impressive vocal range showcased in her “Kellyoke” segments on her talk show and during her Las Vegas residency, it was a delight to hear her sing on Songs & Stories. In my opinion, her voice harmonized beautifully with Estefan’s, and I can’t help but wonder if any of the subsequent guests might match her performance as the series unfolds. We shall see!
On Tuesday, September 2nd, at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC, a new episode of “Songs & Stories” is set to broadcast. This time around, Kelly Clarkson invites Teddy Swims onto the stage for an engaging conversation about his career, and they’ll perform duets of some of his most popular songs together. In this episode, you can also look forward to seeing Lizzo as part of the fourth and final installment.
