I put this case on my Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X — It provides the slimmest handheld protection and a kickstand, but there’s a catch

I have a few different handheld gaming consoles, like the Xbox Ally and Ally X, and I’ve realized they’re a significant investment. That’s why I always suggest getting protective accessories – things like a case, screen protector, or carrying bag – to keep them safe.

I’ve tested dBrand’s Killswitch cases for the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and ROG Ally X before, and I’ve always been impressed with how well they protect my handheld gaming devices, plus they include a useful kickstand. I was eager to see how the newest Killswitch case would fit the Xbox ROG Ally X. Because the Ally X has much longer grips than the other devices, I wondered if it would be more difficult to install.

I’ve now had a chance to try out Killswitch cases on both of my Xbox Allies – the white one and the black Xbox Ally X. After using them for a while, I want to share my thoughts and explain why I think they’re great, but with one small warning.

We received a sample of this product from dBrand for review. However, dBrand didn’t have any influence on the review and hadn’t seen it before it was published.

dBrand Killswitch Travel Case for Xbox Ally: What’s good

You can now preorder the Killswitch Travel Kit for Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X at Best Buy for $79.99. It will be available starting November 19, 2025, making it a great gift for the holidays.

While this case is more expensive than some alternatives, it’s also made with better quality materials and construction than many others on the market.

Just so you know, the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X are nearly identical in size and design, meaning the Killswitch accessory works with either one.

What’s in the box?

This purchase includes everything you need to protect your device: a rubber case, a plastic screen cover, two thumb grips for the joysticks, two glass screen protectors, cleaning wipes, fun skull-shaped dust stickers, and a microfiber towel.

Just wanted to give a quick update on the case I got from dBrand. It’s not the finished version yet, and I noticed a couple of things. The volume buttons weren’t quite in the right spot, and the rubber felt a lot rougher than their Killswitch cases I’ve gotten before – honestly, it felt like a serious scrub for my fingers while I was putting it on! But the good news is dBrand told me they’ve already fixed both of those issues for the final product, so I’m not worried.

Putting the rubber case on these devices requires a little effort, but once it’s on, it fits tightly and stays put.

Like all dBrand Killswitch cases, this one for the Xbox Ally and Ally X is a very tight fit. It takes some effort to get the rubber case on, but once it is, it fits snugly and stays securely in place.

I’ve included a dBrand video tutorial above to demonstrate the Killswitch installation process. While the video features the ROG Ally X (as dBrand doesn’t have one for the Xbox Ally X yet), the steps are identical for both devices.

To install the Killswitch case on my Xbox Ally, I first slid the long grips into the bottom of the case. Then, I stretched the installation stickers – located on either side – up and over the handheld until the case was fully on and properly positioned. Finally, I peeled off the stickers, and it was ready to use.

Adding a case to your handheld gaming device will naturally make it a bit bulkier. Because of this, the Xbox Ally and Ally X might not fit securely in certain dock stands when the Killswitch case is enabled, but this is a known issue.

Just a quick tip for anyone installing this – don’t toss those installation stickers! I learned my lesson with previous setups, so I’m keeping these safe. I popped them back into the Killswitch box and tucked that away in my closet, just in case I ever need to take the case off again. You never know!

The Killswitch cases give me a much more secure grip on my Xbox handhelds. I appreciate that they don’t cover any of the important vents, ports, or buttons, letting me use the devices just as I’m used to.

I think the kickstand and detachable screen cover are the most useful features of the Killswitch case.

The kickstand makes it much easier to prop up my device for hands-free viewing – perfect for watching shows on Netflix or videos on YouTube. I’ve even used a case like the Killswitch to set it up on the kitchen counter while cooking, so I could follow recipes without getting food on the screen.

The detachable plastic cover makes traveling with my handheld gaming device much easier. I can confidently throw my Xbox Ally in a backpack or suitcase knowing it’s shielded from bumps and scratches. What’s great is that this cover offers excellent protection without being bulky like a hard case, saving space in my bag.

Just finished reviewing the Tomtoc Arccos G-47 carrying case, and I checked to see if both the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X still fit comfortably inside with the Killswitch attached. They do! If you’re looking for a convenient way to travel with your device, I recommend combining the Killswitch and the Tomtoc case.

dBrand Killswitch Travel Case for Xbox Ally: What needs improvement

The Killswitch case fits my Xbox Ally and Ally X really well – it’s nice and snug! However, it can be a bit tricky to take off. If you think you’ll be upgrading the SSD or making any changes, it’s best to do that *before* putting the case on. If you anticipate needing to remove the case often, this might not be the best choice for you.

Like previous models, the kickstand seems vulnerable to breaking if it’s bent back too far. This is a common issue with kickstands on many handheld cases, so it’s worth keeping in mind.

dBrand Killswitch Travel Case for Xbox Ally: Should you buy it?

✅ You should buy this if…

  • You want a slim case that still offers plenty of protection
  • You’d like to give your handheld a kickstand for hands-free use
  • You’re looking for a high-quality case that prevents finger slippage

❌ You shouldn’t buy this if…

  • You regularly need to remove the case from your handheld
  • You’d rather get a less expensive alternative

If you have an Xbox Ally or Ally X, dBrand’s Killswitch Travel Kit is a great investment. While it requires a bit of setup, it offers excellent protection for your handheld and takes up less space in your bag compared to a traditional hard case.

A kickstand might seem like a minor addition, but it significantly expands what you can do with your handheld device. Instead of just being for gaming, it becomes a versatile entertainment hub. You can easily set it up on a table or other surface to watch videos or surf the web, freeing your hands.

If you’re looking for a well-made accessory to protect and enhance your Xbox Ally or Ally X, the Killswitch is a perfect, snug fit.
