I Saw Santa Reveals Greg Capullo’s Return to the Spawn Universe With New Cover (EXCLUSIVE)

This holiday season, the world of Spawn is growing in an unexpected direction with the release of the two-part series I Saw Santa. Penned by Chris Killian of ComicBook and his brother Andrew Sanders, and featuring artwork by Thomas Nachlik – known for Sam and Twitch: Case Files – this “supernatural slay ride” will appeal to long-time Spawn fans and anyone looking for a frightening read.

“This story will be wild and take place during a specific time of year, offering a completely new take on both Spawn and Santa Claus,” Spawn creator Todd McFarlane explained. “It’s not a cheerful, lighthearted story-actually, it’s the opposite. We’re going to examine the origins of how we receive gifts, and the ‘rules’ behind it. Chris and Andrew came to me with this idea, and I was hesitant at first. But once I heard their pitch, it made me really excited about the dark direction they wanted to take the story. Thomas’ artwork perfectly captures the strange atmosphere of this plot. So, get ready!”

“This is essentially a love letter (perhaps a Christmas present?) for fans of Spawn,” Killian explained. “It’s a scary holiday story-a blend of murder mystery and twisted mythology-and it all fits within the established Spawn universe. The question we explore is: what if Santa Claus were real and lived in the grim world of Spawn?”

I Saw Santa will have many different cover options, including issue #1 which welcomes back popular artist Greg Capullo to the Spawn Universe. This variant cover for I Saw Santa is Capullo’s first work featuring McFarlane’s character since he illustrated Spawn #313 – 316 in 2020 and 2021.

The first issue of I Saw Santa comes out on Wednesday, November 26th (comic shops need to place their orders by Monday, November 3rd). The last issue will be available in December, perfect for the Christmas season. Each issue is 48 pages long. You can see all the cover images below.
