I’m so excited about Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest film, One Battle After Another! It’s been a huge critical success, racking up an amazing 13 nominations at the Academy Awards – including Best Picture. Before that, it was a big hit at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), where it won six awards out of fourteen nominations. Honestly, winning Best Picture there, especially with strong films like Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme also in the running, was a real standout moment.
The BAFTAs delivered a surprising win in the Best Actor category, with the award going to for his role in I Swear. He beat out strong competition including Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia). Now, I Swear is set for another big moment: it will become available to stream on Netflix in the UK in March 2026, and is expected to be released on and other streaming services in the US later that summer.
Directed by Kirk Jones, this biographical drama tells the story of John Davidson, a Scottish man with Tourette’s syndrome – a neurological condition causing involuntary movements and sounds. The film focuses on John’s life after the 1989 documentary John’s Not Mad, a period when his condition was less pronounced. He recently gained attention, and some controversy, after attending the BAFTA awards.
Featuring Robert Aramayo, Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Peter Mullan, the film I Swear received five BAFTA nominations and won two awards, including Best Casting. Although I Swear wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, its follow-up, One Battle After Another, is predicted to be a major contender for several awards at the Academy Awards.
With its upcoming release on Netflix in the US and globally, I Swear is expected to gain even more popularity. The film received excellent reviews during its limited theatrical release in late 2025, earning a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is poised to become a hit on streaming platforms, allowing a wider audience to discover what all the excitement is about.
I was honestly stunned when Robert Aramayo won the Best Actor BAFTA – the competition was really tough! Seeing him take home the award like that makes me think I Swear is going to be huge when it finally comes out in theaters here and then on Netflix. I’m even more excited for it now!
