I’m a big TV watcher and subscribe to almost every streaming service. I often use these services to finally see movies I missed when they were in theaters. Recently, I watched *The Naked Gun* (available on Paramount+) and Ethan Coen’s *Honey Don’t!* back-to-back. Both were great, but *The Naked Gun*’s incredibly silly and fast-paced humor took a little while to recover from – it was genuinely disorienting!
I went into *Honey Don’t!* with a lot of curiosity, because reviews were all over the place, and I finally got to check it out with my Peacock subscription. Honestly, it’s a really clever dark comedy, and the cast – Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Evans are all fantastic. But having grown up with *The Naked Gun* and its constant slapstick, I kept waiting for the movie to lean into that kind of over-the-top silliness, which never quite happened, even though it felt like a Coen brothers film.
Honey Don’t Is A Dark Comedy, But I Kept Waiting For The Cartoonish Naked Gun Gags
The Naked Gun is packed with jokes, and they’re wonderfully silly – which is exactly what makes it so funny! The over-the-top, broad comedy kept me laughing for the entire 85 minutes. It’s full of pop culture nods, visual jokes, and running gags, making it completely chaotic and hilarious. It’s a tough act to follow, though; switching to a movie like Honey, Don’t! with its different style of humor felt a bit jarring afterward.
I laughed a lot at the beginning, particularly at Evans’ over-the-top performance. Having just watched the previous films, I expected even more outrageous comedy, but it took a little while to get used to the different style. Eventually, though, I really enjoyed the surprising and unpredictable direction Ethan Coen took with this movie.
You can watch *Honey Don’t!* on Peacock, with plans starting at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. For an extra cost, you can upgrade to Peacock Premium or Premium Plus for ad-free viewing and the ability to download shows and movies to watch offline. See the deal here!
Ethan Coen’s *Honey Don’t!* is the second in a series of three low-budget lesbian films, following *Drive-Away Dolls*. Both films feature Margaret Qualley (from *The Substance*) and blend crime with dark comedy. I thought they were both great, but watching *The Naked Gun* right before probably wasn’t the best idea!

Chris Evans delivers a delightfully unhinged performance as Reverend Drew Devlin, a self-absorbed cult leader, connecting the two recent films he’s appeared in. He does something particularly shocking in *Honey Don’t!* – a moment that might even surprise fans of his Captain America persona – following up on some very adult humor in *Deadpool & Wolverine*. It’s clear Evans is enjoying the chance to play against type after his time as Steve Rogers. He’s the most memorable character in the movie, and his bizarre performance feels like it could easily fit into a Liam Neeson comedy.
You can now watch *Honey Don’t!* on Peacock and *The Naked Gun* on Paramount+. I’d suggest checking out both films, but be warned – watching them back-to-back might be a bit much!
