Have you watched the 2025 adaptation of “War of the Worlds,” starring Ice Cube? This isn’t the Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning film from 2005 based on H.G. Wells’ novel. The new one was recently added to the movie schedule and can be streamed with an Amazon Prime Video subscription. However, it’s important to note that its critical reviews have been extremely poor, earning a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Even fellow rapper 50 Cent found humor in this news!
None of the 20 reviews listed for War of the Worlds on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a positive score, and the fan-generated Popcornmeter only comes out slightly better at 18%. 50 Cent posted the following to Instagram upon seeing headlines about how poorly this sci-fi flick has been received (edited for grammar and clarity):
How can someone receive a zero-percent rating? It seems like someone is upset with the movie “Cube.” That has me a bit worried about watching it myself. Ha ha!
Is it possible that he’s hinting at some sort of conspiracy affecting Ice Cube and the low Rotten Tomatoes rating of “War of the Worlds”? While I don’t think it goes that far, his surprise was so great that he shared it on social media. Here’s hoping he overcomes his hesitation and watches “War of the Worlds.” If he does, I’d be intrigued to hear his thoughts on the movie. And if ever 50 Cent gets a chance to discuss this with Ice Cube face-to-face, that would certainly be an interesting conversation to eavesdrop on!

With an Amazon Prime membership, you get more than just video streaming. It comes with free, rapid delivery, access to Prime Gaming, Reading, and exclusive deals. You can even evaluate “War of the Worlds” and enjoy Amazon Originals like the “Lord of the Rings” prequel “The Rings of Power” and the popular series “The Boys”. Try it for 30 days free, then pay $14.99 monthly or save 22% by paying $139 annually in advance. Check out the deal here.
It’s clear that not every film will be a success, but the fact that all professional critics who reviewed “War of the Worlds” have been critical of it is quite significant. Our critic Philip Sledge even went as far as to say it could be the worst movie of the year, describing it as “cheap, lacking depth, riddled with plot inconsistencies akin to excessive Amazon mentions, and featuring an excess of false death scenes.” However, despite these criticisms, Philip still enjoyed watching “War of the Worlds,” which says something about its entertainment value.
In the best-case situation, this interpretation of “War of the Worlds” could turn into a movie that people enjoy for its poor quality, one they watch together with drinks in hand. However, I don’t foresee it reaching the level of popularity where it plays in special theatrical screenings like “The Room” by Tommy Wiseau. It seems it lacks the necessary appeal to achieve such a status.
In the movie “War of the Worlds,” Ice Cube, portraying DHS agent Will Radford, teams up with Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, and Andrea Savage, among others. Rich Lee directed this production, while Kenneth A. Golde and Marc Hyman penned the script. More recently, 50 Cent has taken on an executive producer role for the film “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera,” which was released in January.
