Over the past five years, some top-tier series have ended in Weekly Shonen Jump, leaving many wondering which title would step up to fill the void. Now, it appears that a new contender has arisen and solidified its place as one of the magazine’s cornerstones for this generation: “Ichi the Witch.” Since its debut, this series has gained immense popularity, and alongside a handful of others, is being touted as a manga destined to take over. Moreover, its growth trajectory is the most remarkable among all current series.
The magazine has launched a Limited Digital Subscription offer, which gives readers a discount on their first month’s subscription, access to old issues of the magazine, and exclusive merchandise benefits. To announce this campaign, a poster featuring five ongoing manga series was revealed, with “Ichi the Witch,” “One Piece,” “Kagurabachi,” “Blue Box,” and “Sakamoto Days” being among them. It’s encouraging to see that the latest fantasy manga chosen for advertising and promotion is well-liked and attracts users, and being associated with popular titles like “One Piece” and “Sakamoto Days” is certainly a bonus.

This manga, penned by Osamu Nishi and vividly illustrated by Shiro Usazaki, centers around a realm inhabited by magical beings known as Majiks. It was long held that only women possessed the ability to transform into witches after vanquishing these creatures and passing a unique rite of passage. However, all expectations are shattered when Ichi, a young hunter from Druid Mountain, defeats a Majik, marking him as the first male witch. This development poses a significant challenge to the established magical system, as witches draw their power through hunting. Unbeknownst to Ichi, his emergence could drastically alter the future of this world where magic-wielders clash violently, with the most potent sorceress engaged in a life-or-death battle against a formidable magic monarch.
The manga “Ichi the Witch” undeniably gained attention due to the artist behind “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun,” but its rapid and astonishing popularity is noteworthy. In the first week of volume releases, it sold over 50,000 copies, suggesting a potential anime adaptation that could make it one of this decade’s most successful manga series, similar to “Kagurabachi.” There are whispers of an upcoming anime for “Kagurabachi” as well. With the conclusion of popular series like “My Hero Academia,” “Jujutsu Kaisen,” and “Haikyuu!”, it appears that some highly anticipated new series are poised to fill the void they’ve left behind.
