2025 wasn’t a particularly strong year for Weekly Shonen Jump, with more series being cancelled than new ones finding success. While several new manga were launched, only Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo – a sequel to the popular Jujutsu Kaisen – generated significant buzz. Currently, Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch are the magazine’s biggest hits, even though they haven’t been adapted into anime yet, and consistently draw attention. The annual Kono Manga ga Sugoi! awards saw Ichi the Witch rank fourth among manga aimed at male readers, while Kagurabachi placed 40th out of 48 titles. Kono Manga ga Sugoi! is a well-respected annual publication, similar to a magazine, that has been released by Takarajimasha since 2005.
A lesser-known series called Hon Nara Uru Hodo by Ao Kojima actually topped the rankings, but several popular titles from Shonen Jump also performed well. Strikeout Pitch by Kyu Sumiyoshi came in third, surpassing Ichi the Witch, and both Maison and the Man-Eating Apartment and The JOJOLands ranked above Kagurabachi. This information comes from @WSJ_manga on X, a trusted source for Shonen Jump news. Despite the specific rankings, it’s clear Shonen Jump has high hopes for these series, as they were both featured on the cover of the 2026 issue – a rare occurrence, especially for the year’s first cover.
Ichi the Witch Is a Must-Read For Fantasy Lovers

The show premiered last September and immediately became popular thanks to its captivating story, imaginative world, charming characters, and stunning visuals. It takes place in a world where magic, known as Majiks, exists as living spells. These powerful abilities are unlocked through challenging trials, which, for reasons unknown, only women have ever been able to complete. This has been true for as long as anyone can remember. So, it came as a complete surprise when a solitary hunter from the mountains suddenly gained access to a powerful Majik.
Although the odds were low, Ichi stepped in to help because the Majik’s trial declared that no woman could defeat him. The story follows Ichi as he explores the world of magic and adjusts to his new life. He’s in a unique position – while most witches accept him, he needs to prove to the public that he isn’t dangerous. You can find the manga on the official Manga Plus app and the Viz Media website, which also have links to purchase the collected volumes.
