Iconic British comedy The Full Monty celebrates 30th anniversary with new UK stage tour

The popular British comedy film, The Full Monty, is marking its 30th anniversary with a brand new stage show planned for 2027.

Simon Beaufoy, the original writer of the story, first adapted it into a popular stage play in 2013. Now, he’s bringing a new production of the play to venues across the UK, starting in January of next year.

The popular 1997 movie tells the story of six jobless men in Sheffield, England, who decide to become male strippers. They take it a step further than typical performers by giving a truly daring and complete show – ‘going the Full Monty’.

Since its release, the film has received widespread critical praise. It was ranked among the top 25 British films of the 20th century by the BFI and has since been adapted into a stage play, a musical, and a television series.

When announcing the new tour, Beaufoy explained that the show feels especially important right now, given the current social issues and rising cost of living. He noted that while Britain has changed a lot since ‘The Full Monty’ first came out 30 years ago, people still need humor, kindness, and respect.

It’s wonderful to have the Monty Men touring again! They’re perfectly imperfect – flaws, funny moments, and all – and they’re bringing a lot of much-needed happiness to people.

The show’s announcement hinted at big-name actors, but currently, only the creative team has been revealed. It includes director Michael Gyngell, choreographer and intimacy director Ian West, set and costume designer Jasmine Swann, lighting designer Andrew Exeter, and sound designer Chris Whybrow.

The play will premiere in Sheffield on January 15, 2027, and then tour to a variety of cities including Cardiff, Nottingham, and York, as well as Bradford, Brighton, and many others across the UK and Ireland.

Ticket details have also yet to be announced.
