Okay, movie fans, listen up! I’m about to talk about Avatar: Fire and Ash, and I’m going to reveal some major plot points. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the 2025 film yet, you might want to stop reading now – I don’t want to ruin anything for you!
I’m still completely captivated by Avatar: The Way of Water, even weeks after seeing it! Everyone talks about Quaritch and Kiri, and they’re great, but it’s Oona Chaplin as Varang, the leader of the Ash People, who really stuck with me. Her performance was just unforgettable.
It’s unclear if James Cameron will make a fourth and fifth Avatar movie, but I’m really hoping to see the character Varang return. She had one of the most compelling storylines in Avatar 3, a distinctive appearance, and some loose ends that need resolving, which is why I’m so eager to see what happens to her next. Let me explain why…

Varang Is One Of The Most Interesting Avatar Characters Introduced So Far
James Cameron consistently creates compelling characters in the Avatar movies, and Varang has quickly become one of my favorites – she’s right up there with Neytiri and Quaritch. While she’s a fierce and intimidating Na’vi warrior, her actions are driven by a difficult past filled with pain and loss. You might see her as a villain, but there’s a clear motivation behind everything she does.
Whenever Varang appeared on screen, I knew something exciting was about to happen, and that held true throughout the movie. From her initial introduction and first scenes with Quaritch, to witnessing Kiri’s powerful moment at the end of Avatar: Fire and Ash, there was a lot to enjoy about her character.

I Want To See How She Handles The Fallout Of Two Major Scenes
Varang’s story has a lot of exciting possibilities for future sequels, and I’m eager to see what the filmmakers do with it. The leader of the Metkayina is a compelling character, and exploring her story further could really keep the Avatar franchise strong for years to come. I’m especially interested in seeing how she deals with the consequences of the two big moments in Fire and Ash.
I’d be really interested in seeing Varang deal with the emotional fallout if Quaritch truly died after falling off the cliff. Even if he somehow survives, having her believe he’s dead could make their story even more compelling and add depth to her character.
Varang’s reaction to seeing Kiri’s bond with Eywa was striking – the usually fierce leader was left terrified. Having felt let down by the All-Mother since a volcanic eruption destroyed her home, it will be compelling to see how she processes this new power and whether it alters her perspective. This could mark a significant turning point for her character.
Just like we’ve been hearing about a potential Earth setting for future Avatar movies, we’ll have to wait and see if the planned sequels for Varang actually come to fruition. I’m hoping they do!
