If You Thought Inflation Was Bad, Jinger Duggar Just Revealed How Much It Costs To Feed All The Duggars For A Week, And Yikes

Jinger Duggar Vuolo has often found it challenging to discuss her childhood experiences within the Duggar family, which became well-known through the show “19 Kids and Counting“. She’s openly admitted that it’s been both difficult and scary for her to delve into the questionable religious setting in which Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar raised their many children. However, there are certain aspects of belonging to such a large family that can be quite extraordinary, particularly when considering the hefty grocery bills associated with feeding so many mouths.

A significant factor drawing America to the Duggars was the large number of people they had to provide for. On their podcast, Jinger Duggar Vuolo and her husband Jeremy reflected on this issue by revisiting a TLC special from 2006 titled “16 Children & Moving In“. This special aired two years before the series that eventually became “19 Kids and Counting“. The special captured the family shopping at an Aldi in Arkansas, with Jim Bob Duggar commenting as they approached the checkout.

We’re at $677. We got seven cartloads, which is a little under $100 a cart, so that’s pretty good.

Alright, let’s simplify this. A couple with quite a large family, reminiscent of a baseball team, visited the grocery store. They ended up filling no less than seven shopping carts. I bet that was quite chaotic! And to top it off, they spent an astonishing $700 in one go – which would likely be described by Jinger Duggar as utterly insane.

Nevertheless, given that a grocery cart costing less than $100 is becoming increasingly hard to find, as I’ve noticed my expenses quickly escalate to around $300 with just one full cart of groceries. And it seems inflation is the culprit behind this rise in costs, Jeremy Vuolo noted similarly.

Contemplate the cost of those goods nowadays. In other words, back then, he paid $700 for seven loads of groceries. That’s equivalent to approximately $2,000 in today’s prices.

It seems that cost is closer to your monthly rental fee rather than your weekly food expense. It’s no surprise that Jim Bob Duggar refers to grocery shopping as quite an undertaking.

It’s great to note that Michelle Duggar seemed skilled at making her money last. She often bought in bulk, and Jinger mentioned that she was always mindful of spending and waste. Growing up, they had plenty of canned fruits, soups, and bean burritos. During a TLC special, Michelle even shared some of the items on her shopping list.

Today, we plan on purchasing approximately 24 cans of milk, a full box of butter (usually containing 48 pieces), and as many frozen burritos as they have available. Essentially, we aim to restock both our freezer and pantry today.

It’s clear that the Duggars routinely use a substantial amount of groceries, as Jinger Duggar admitted they could easily fill up seven shopping carts. Thus, it’s understandable that frequent trips to the grocery store were simply part of their everyday routine.

10 years have passed since “19 Kids and Counting” was taken off the air, and 4 years have gone by since “Counting On” was ended by TLC. It seems like Jinger may not be planning to come back to reality TV any time soon, but we can at least listen to her discuss her past experiences on “The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast”. Additionally, you can explore the more complex aspects of the Duggars’ lives by streaming the docuseries “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.
