Ignition Press is significantly expanding with the unveiling of their latest creation, and here’s where you’ll find all the insider scoop! The press has announced a brand-new series called Arcadia, which is being developed by renowned creators Roy and Inaki Miranda (We Live, Blade Forger). This captivating series unfolds in a world devoid of humanity, yet teeming with life anew. However, the quest for purpose and connection from our past remains everlasting.
This team-up brings together the Miranda Bros., colorist Eva de la Cruz, and letterer Dave Sharpe once more, having collaborated effectively on We Live and Blade Forger. Interestingly, another reunion is taking place too, as editor Jamie S. Rich had previously partnered with Roy and Inaki on Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons, a project that earned several award nominations.
In a post-human world, Arcadia narrates the journey of a unique lifeform called Halu, who belongs to a group known as Serants, born mysteriously from Superdragons, or chrysalises. Each Serant’s consciousness, memories, and essence are encapsulated within a core, known as a Pearl. The story unfolds when Halu is born late in a secluded silo and later rescued by a scavenger named Weedy. After this chance encounter, Halu crosses paths with a young mechanic named Fix, an event that significantly alters the course of their lives forever.
Inaki Miranda, one of the creators of Arcadia, shared that despite being set in a fractured universe, it is a tribute to life and the connections that empower us. He found expressing this world through language and art helped him grasp what’s fleeting: emotions, relationships, self-awareness. His intention was to ensure each page of Arcadia resonates emotionally, offering a sensory experience where you can see, read, and feel simultaneously. In essence, it is not just a tale to ponder upon, but an immersive journey that one truly experiences.
According to co-creator and co-writer Roy Miranda, “Arcadia” revolves around the concept of making do with what’s left – memories, relationships, unanswered questions. It’s a tale that showcases the beauty that endures in the face of catastrophe. The intention behind its creation was to craft a narrative that is as personal as it is expansive. In essence, “Arcadia” is not just a love story, but also an exploration of memory as a powerful tool of resistance.
At San Diego Comic-Con, you’ll have an opportunity to discover fresh merchandise and sneak peeks of Arcadia before its Cold Open issue Kickstarter campaign commences in August. Every Cold Open issue from Ignition Press offers a self-contained entrance for fans, showcasing an engaging vignette that introduces the world, the conflicts, and the characters within the narrative. Moreover, as a fan, you’ll gain access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content, special previews, and much more. The issue will boast covers designed by Inaki Miranda and the creative team of Jae Lee and June Chung. To stay updated about its launch, simply sign up here.
When we embarked on creating the publishing blueprint for Ignition Press, it was clear from the outset that we aimed for a wide-reaching vision, explained Jamie S. Rich, Editor-in-Chief of Ignition Press. I had confidence in the Miranda Bros.’ ability to craft expansive worlds and timeless stories, so their proposal didn’t catch me off guard. However, what did astonish me was how much Arcadia surpassed my highest expectations – it’s entirely original yet seamlessly aligns with their personal touchstones, making it impossible to define or categorize. All one can do is immerse oneself in the vision. Here’s the formal description of Arcadia for your perusal.
In a time when humans are extinct, a novel form of life emerges from the debris: the Serants, synthetic beings hatched from enigmatic technological cocoons called Superdragons. Each one possesses a Pearl, a biotechnological heart that houses their consciousness, their memories… their spirit.
Born at a tardy hour, Halu was birthed from a secluded silo, shrouded in obscurity. It was Weedy, an unconventional scavenger with a penchant for historical relics and introspection about life’s purpose, who saved him from impending doom. In due course, Halu crosses paths with Fix, a resilient, powerful, and radiant young mechanic whose presence stirs something profound within him. Amidst the wreckage of their world and threats lurking around every corner, they embark on a quest for purpose, companionship, and motivation to persevere.
