Players of Pokémon Pokopia will soon be able to decorate their islands with furniture inspired by IKEA, bringing a bit of Swedish design to the game.
Pokopia, released earlier this month, has surprisingly become a strong contender for game of the year, even earning critic scores comparable to those of Resident Evil Requiem on Metacritic.
Considering this game heavily features furniture and interior design, it’s perfect that IKEA, the famous Swedish home goods store, is joining the fun.
Starting April 1st, IKEA Japan is offering a special promotion where customers can try out homes fully designed by IKEA’s team of designers.
Okay, so there’s a new thing in the game – you can unlock ‘IKEA Island’ with a special code! It’s seriously cool because the rooms there are actually designed by the people who work with IKEA, but they’ve made everything look like it’s inspired by Pokémon – think Pikachu and Snorlax themed rooms. It’s a really neat crossover!

Similar to how it works on Developer Island, players can scan items they discover on IKEA Island and recreate them in their own worlds.
We’re sorry to say that you won’t be able to find some of IKEA’s famous furniture in the game, so there won’t be a Pokémon version of the Poang chair, unfortunately.
IKEA fans in Japan will have even more to look forward to! In addition to the virtual world, IKEA Japan plans to build real-life versions of the Pokopia rooms in their stores, letting visitors experience them firsthand – and maybe even purchase items to create the look at home.
IKEA Japan locations will offer fun activities like a stamp rally, special themed food, and photo opportunities. Customers can also win stickers and enter to win prizes.
This partnership marks the first time Pokopia has collaborated with another brand, and it’s the second special event held within the game, following the ‘More Spores for Hoppip’ event that recently took place.
In addition to the collaboration, players can also enjoy the Sableye event starting at the end of April.
