I’m a big fan of the Absolute Universe, and I really hope DC Comics continues to keep this new world separate from the main DC Universe for the rest of 2026. The Absolute line had a fantastic first year in 2025, and it’s clear it’s been a huge success. These fresh interpretations of DC’s classic heroes are already becoming iconic, and the strong sales numbers prove it. DC has a real hit on their hands, but with that success comes the risk of changing things.
If you’re a fan of DC K.O. – and you should be, it’s a great series – you probably know DC Comics is planning something with the Absolute Universe. However, it’s less of a team-up and more Darkseid using the Absolute heroes’ likenesses to fight characters like Superman and Wonder Woman. This makes me wonder if DC is trying to quickly create a full crossover to benefit from the popularity of the Absolute Universe, and honestly, that’s probably not what fans want to see at the moment.
DC Comics is Starting 2026 Off with an Absolute Crossover (Kind of)

I expected the Absolute Universe series to perform well, but I never imagined it would become one of the top-selling lines of 2025. Still, looking back, it makes sense. The series had everything: exciting action in Absolute Batman, a lot of heart in Absolute Wonder Woman, and a unique, mind-bending quality in Absolute Martian Manhunter. All of these books have been incredibly popular, becoming some of DC Comics’ biggest hits. So, I’m not surprised to hear that the Absolute Trinity will be appearing in DC K.O.
Honestly, I’m still convinced the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman we’re seeing in DC K.O. aren’t the real deal. I mean, we’ve seen them on the cover of DC K.O. #4, sure, and it’s true they were glowing with what looked like Darkseid’s energy – even had those Omega symbols in their eyes! But that shadowy look in DC K.O. #1 really made me think these aren’t the actual heroes, but rather champions made by Darkseid, like his own personal enforcers. So, I’m relieved DC isn’t jumping into a full-on crossover with the Absolute Universe just yet, and I think that’s a good thing.
It’s only a matter of time before the two universes collide. DC created these alternate versions of their heroes for a reason, and they’re bound to bring them together eventually. While they’ve currently used copies created by Darkseid as a way to have the heroes interact, I suspect the popularity of the Absolute Universe will push DC to create a full-fledged crossover before the new series has a chance to truly establish itself.
The Absolute Line is Popular, But It Needs More Time To Develop

I understand why DC Comics might want to quickly connect its popular Absolute line with its regular comics. The Absolute editions are selling really well, and it’s tempting to bring those characters into the main storylines. However, that would be a mistake. The Absolute line is still new – barely over a year old – and we’re still getting to know these versions of the heroes, their enemies, and the people around them. In fact, the first crossover – between Absolute Wonder Woman and Batman – didn’t even happen until late 2025.
I’m all for seeing the Absolute heroes team up with their Prime versions eventually. However, this universe needs more time to develop first. Marvel took over ten years to merge its Ultimate and main universes, and while DC doesn’t need to wait that long, patience is key. Letting the Absolute Universe establish itself will make any future crossover with the main DC Universe much more rewarding.
Overall, I believe DC Comics is handling the ‘Absolute Universe’ well. Aside from the recent appearance in DC K.O. – which probably wasn’t even the true Absolute Trinity – there’s no sign that the Absolute and main DC universes will collide anytime soon. The Absolute line has been fantastic, and while a crossover would be exciting eventually, most fans probably want to see this world grow independently. If DC does eventually unite the two universes, it will be more satisfying because they took their time.
