I’m Delighted One Piece Season 2 Proved Me Wrong

I had some doubts about One Piece season 2, but I was pleasantly surprised! The season ended with the Straw Hat crew gaining a new member and introducing several new villains. These villains will be important in season 3, which continues the story that started in 2023.

No one really expected the first season of One Piece to be any good. Netflix hasn’t had much success with live-action anime adaptations, leading many to believe that anime’s unique and imaginative worlds just don’t translate well to live-action. This was the general feeling about One Piece – a series with over 1000 anime episodes and still going – even before it premiered on Netflix.

Despite initial doubts, the show became a popular and critically acclaimed live-action anime adaptation, arguably the best one yet. While some concerns existed about a second season of One Piece, those fears turned out to be unfounded.

There Were Serious Doubts That One Piece Could Continue Its Success In Season 2

A major concern surrounding One Piece season 2 stemmed from its increasingly expansive world. Titled “Into the Grand Line,” the new season shifted away from the relatively more realistic themes of fishmen and marines, and dove into a far more bizarre setting filled with islands inhabited by dinosaurs, giant cacti, talking reindeer, strange creatures, and even melancholy whales – essentially, a much wilder side of the One Piece universe.

Most fans agree that season 2 of One Piece leans more into comedic moments than the first season. With more unique Devil Fruit abilities introduced and the absence of one main villain driving the plot, there were concerns that it wouldn’t be as strong as what came before.

One Piece Overcame The Odds & Topped Season 1

Despite all the initial concerns, they turned out to be unfounded. Even the more ridiculous elements, like the explosive abilities of the villains in One Piece, were handled with such sincerity that it was difficult to find fault with them. The same went for Tony Tony Chopper, the talking reindeer. His heartbreaking origin story, appealing CGI design, and Mikaela Hoover’s excellent voice acting made his episode the highest-rated of the series on IMDb.

While the story didn’t have a clear central villain, King Wapol provided a decent challenge, and the introduction of Mr. Crocodile from One Piece hinted at bigger threats to come, keeping the plot engaging overall.

The islands in the Grand Line were recreated with incredible detail from the anime, making the second season of One Piece just as charming and enjoyable as the first. The show’s energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and the actors deliver strong performances. It even successfully brings to life challenging elements from the source material, like massive warriors and characters with hidden weapons disguised as hairstyles.

Honestly, I went into One Piece season 2 a little worried – could it live up to the first season, especially with everything getting bigger? But it totally worked! The way they adapted the story felt so genuine and heartfelt, it just pulled you in. And it wasn’t just me – the response was amazing. It actually scored higher than season one, averaging an 8.6 on IMDb compared to 8.4 – which is pretty rare!

Critics generally liked the first season of One Piece, giving it an 86% approval rating. However, the second season was even more popular, receiving a perfect 100% score from all critics who reviewed it.

One Piece Season 3 Is Set To Get Even Better

It’s especially exciting that One Piece is expected to get even better in its third season. Season 2 demonstrated the show’s ability to handle larger storylines and adapt the more unusual parts of the anime successfully, which puts any concerns to rest. Combined with the already compelling story planned for season 3, One Piece is poised to continue its upward trajectory.

The third season of Netflix’s One Piece will cover the exciting conclusion of the Arabasta Saga. It will showcase the intense battle between the Straw Hat Pirates, their friends, Princess Vivi, and the kingdom of Alabasta against the villainous organization Baroque Works, led by Crocodile. Expect plenty of action-packed scenes and a closer look at the unique kingdom of Alabasta within the Grand Line.

With the addition of Netflix stars like Xolo Maridueña in a key role for Luffy, season 3 of One Piece is shaping up to be fantastic. While season 2 already surprised me and proved my initial concerns wrong, season 3 will likely make me look even more foolish for ever having doubted the show.
