As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve always believed that television announcements aren’t carved in stone – even though someone might have combined those sentiments before – but I expect networks and streaming platforms to honor their commitment when it comes to season renewals. The unfortunate cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin, which came without notice from Paramount+, has left me feeling dejected ever since the news broke.
A number of actors from the TV show Original Sin swiftly expressed dismay on social media platforms. One such actor is Alex Shimuzu, who plays the character Vince Masuka, a forensic analyst known for his perverse and giggling nature (originally portrayed by CS Lee in the original series). Initially, Shimuzu’s response was as restrained as one would anticipate, but his subsequent TikTok post managed to lift my spirits even amidst my disappointment.

The song that Shimizu is listening to is Calvin Harris’ “Feels,” a collaboration with Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Big Sean. Intriguingly, the post begins midway through the first verse, omitting some significant lines: “You know nothing lasts forever, not even for a moment, one minute you’re here, and the next, you’re gone.
Perhaps Shimuzu intentionally choreographed the dance to distract from the cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin, suggesting that the performance isn’t a lamentation over fleeting moments but rather a celebration of moving forward after adversity. With his optimistic caption “The beat goes on!”, it seems fans can rest assured that Shimuzu is resilient and will undoubtedly excel in whatever challenges lie ahead.
Enthusiasts of the series Dexter are flocking to endorse the “Save Original Sin” petitions en masse, following the announcement of its cancellation. At present, the petition hosted on Change.org has amassed more than 32,000 signatures, with the count increasing at a steady pace.
Shimuzu himself also promoted the petition on Monday evening, sharing the following post:

Discussing the ongoing relevance of the concept known as Original Sin for several months, we have been brainstorming which characters we most anticipate seeing again, and we have also been speculating about who among them might be privy to Dexter’s secrets. Moreover, the early appearance of Brian Moser in Dexter’s life has piqued our curiosity regarding its potential impact on the original series’ storyline.

With the final season of “Dexter” wrapping up, keep your excitement alive as you anticipate upcoming episodes of “Resurrection.” Upgrade to a Paramount Plus Premium plan and enjoy ad-free viewing. This deal is priced at $12.99 per month or opt for an annual subscription at $119.99.
In essence, all our speculations seemed pointless until the higher-ups at Paramount+ and Showtime reconsider their decision and resume production for the second season of the prequel. It’s plausible that a large portion of the resources initially earmarked for this spinoff are now being allocated to the second season of Dexter: Resurrection.
Although I wouldn’t say I dislike it, given my enjoyment of Michael C. Hall’s escapades in New York City. However, it’s challenging to cheer for any misfortunes in the series during this second wave. Truthfully, I wish there was more Christian Slater as Harry Morgan in the storyline.
For now, all episodes of all Dexter series can be streamed via Paramount+ subscription.
