As Hollow Knight: Silksong takes over the gaming world, I find myself, as many others do, pondering what upcoming game will fill that long-awaited slot in our hearts. For those of us who appreciate cozy gaming experiences, Witchbrook seems to be slipping back into the realm of uncertainty. Announced way back in 2016, this game then disappeared from the limelight for years until it reappeared with a Winter 2025 release window at a Nintendo Direct earlier this year. Ever since, fans like myself have been on tenterhooks, eagerly anticipating an official release date. Now, three Nintendo Direct showcases have come and gone without so much as a peep about Witchbrook’s status, and Winter 2025 is beginning to feel more like a phantom promise.
Since our initial news about Witchbrook came from a Nintendo Direct presentation after a long hiatus, it’s logical that any new release date would follow suit. Fans who have been eagerly anticipating a pixel art world similar to Hogwarts Legacy have been on tenterhooks, yet they’ve been left disappointed three times over. After the September Nintendo Direct, we’re still waiting for any news about when (or even if) Witchbrook might come out in 2025. There’s still a chance, but time is running short, especially if developer Chucklefish wants to take advantage of the holiday shopping season.
Updates on Witchbrook Have Slowed Down in Recent Months
Last time I penned down my thoughts about the potential delay of Witchbrook, there was still the anticipation of the September Nintendo Direct looming ahead. I had been keeping fingers crossed, hoping that the magical world of Witchbrook would finally reveal its release date during the showcase. But alas, it didn’t happen.
With a gaping silence spanning several years between the game’s initial reveal and the new trailer unveiled in March, I can’t help but feel a sense of unease that the wait might just extend further. As of now, there’s no concrete confirmation about a delay. However, considering the signs we’ve seen so far, it’s getting harder not to fret about the possibility.
There seems to be a peculiar pattern with you, as you often arrive just when I’m about to do something risky. Could it be mere coincidence, or is there a connection we haven’t yet uncovered? #UnveilingCormacFitzroy, the maverick artist of Witchbrook!#Witchbrook

Despite a noticeable reduction in activity compared to earlier this year, Chucklefish hasn’t completely stopped communicating about Witchbrook. In fact, their official account on platform X has been sharing occasional posts as recently as September 1st, unveiling one of the game’s potential romantic characters, Cormac Fitzroy. Prior to that, a developer blog was posted on August 12th. It appears the release pace has slowed significantly since March to May. Whether this indicates they’re gearing up for a Winter 2025 launch or preparing for possible delays is still uncertain.
53.4K people follow Witchbrook’s account on X, while the Steam game has accumulated over 81K followers. This suggests that many of us share the excitement of anticipating a magical new game for winter. However, since the expected release date announcement during the Nintendo Direct didn’t occur as planned, one might wonder when Chucklefish will finally reveal it.
With No More Nintendo Directs, When Could Witchbrook Unveil Its Release Date?
Instead of heading straight to the Witchbrook subreddit out of frustration, like any other disheartened gaming enthusiast enchanted by witchcraft might do, I checked it out to gauge the general mood among fellow fans regarding the absence of recent updates. The initial post that caught my eye was a remnant of yesterday’s optimism when we all anticipated receiving a release date to celebrate. However, as I continued scrolling through posts, I noticed some intriguing theories about potential future opportunities for an official announcement of the release date.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for news about Witchbrook, and I can sense the anticipation among fellow gamers in our online communities. While it’s exciting to think that the team might drop an announcement at any moment, considering their strong presence on social media and Steam, it’s more likely that they’d go for a broader reach, like a Nintendo Direct, given the size and anticipation surrounding Witchbrook.
However, with the September showcase traditionally marking the end of year announcements for Nintendo, I find it rather unlikely we’ll see another one in 2025. Therefore, while there’s a possibility that Witchbrook could be unveiled during a Nintendo Direct this year, I’d say it’s not very probable. Consequently, a 2025 release date reveal at a Nintendo Direct seems less likely for Witchbrook.
Despite what one Reddit user noted, Steam Next Fest in October is yet to come. While Witchbrook recently resurfaced with a Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, it’s also planned to hit Steam. The game’s official X account encourages adding it to your PC wishlist as a primary action. Moreover, revealing the release date of a witch-themed game at an October event could be considered a clever marketing strategy.
Absolutely, numerous independent games often find the Steam Next Fest an excellent marketing platform. This event primarily features demos for upcoming games, and developers frequently combine their demos with announcements about releases, significant updates, and so forth. Therefore, it’s possible that we might hear some news about Witchbrook during the week of October 13th-20th, which is when Steam Next Fest takes place. It could even include news of a demo release. Fingers crossed!
Although my instincts suggest a potential postponement of the release date for Witchbrook, I am still optimistically hoping that this won’t be the case. Ideally, an announcement about the release date for Witchbrook will come soon. As of now, it’s anticipated that Witchbrook will launch in Winter 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. However, considering recent developments, it seems less probable that Winter 2025 is the definite release timeframe.
