Recently, an outfit made of belted leather became available on the store within Final Fantasy 14, priced individually at real money. I expressed my disapproval towards its separation into three distinct items, which amounts to $42 when bought as a complete set, appearing pricey given the outfit’s design and piece division. While it’s your decision to spend on cosmetic items, I can’t help but voice my concern over the latest trends in the store’s recent additions.

It’s apparent that we’re unsure of the exact figures, but it’s clear that Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail is experiencing a decline in subscribers. This means Square Enix is earning less revenue than usual from their main money-making game. Given this situation, the latest two offerings in the online store appear more like desperate attempts to make money. It’s important to note that these items are not essential and players can opt not to spend extra money on them. However, there’s a desire among some players to look stylish using these exclusive in-store items. At this point, I perceive it as the beginning of what could become a troubling trend. I worry that this practice might continue as the enthusiasm for the game is waning for numerous players.
Alisaie’s Shadowbringers Outfit Is in the Online Store

You’ll find numerous Scion costumes up for purchase with real money, but many of them can be crafted in-game using obtainable items without additional costs. The latest addition is Alisaie’s outfit from Shadowbringers, priced at $12. This outfit, known as the Crystarium Rebel’s Attire, can be customized with dyes and used as a glamour for any job. While it might be worth buying for this purpose, it’s less unique compared to outfits like G’raha’s or Zero’s, which are more challenging to replicate in-game without purchasing them. Both G’raha’s and Zero’s costumes also retail for $12, making Alisaie’s outfit seem somewhat overpriced given its lack of uniqueness compared to these options.
As a gamer, I can’t help but wonder if those items on the online store will keep selling. Frankly, I have my doubts about the prices staying the same. With each passing day, it seems like I’m getting less for my money. The thought of Sphene’s outfit being added to the store excites me, but I can’t shake off a feeling of worry over how much it might cost if it does get added. I don’t want to jump to conclusions and call it greedy just yet, but if the trend in pricing continues at this rate, I’m struggling to find another term for it.
