A costume design that didn’t make it into the movie *Avengers: Endgame* is getting a lot of attention from fans, and many are happy it was scrapped. Captain America‘s story in *Avengers: Endgame* was a powerful conclusion to his character arc, which began when Steve Rogers first appeared in 2011.
Concept artist Aleksi Briclot recently revealed early designs for Captain America’s Quantum Suit from the time travel sequence in *Avengers: Endgame*. This version of the suit features significantly more red, particularly across the shoulders and chest, creating a bolder, but perhaps overwhelming, color scheme. The initial designs also included a larger Avengers logo on the chest, which some felt was distracting.
This early version of the suit appears thicker and less streamlined than the final one, mostly because of the large neck supports built on top of the chest piece. Also, unlike the suit worn during the heist, this design doesn’t have a belt – the one Captain America and the team used to carry their shrinking Pym Particles.
Perhaps the most jarring part of the design is Captain America wearing his traditional helmet – with the white ‘A’ – with this new suit. It feels like two separate outfits combined, and the helmet’s blue doesn’t quite coordinate with the suit’s red.
The final Iron Man suit in *Endgame* is primarily white, with black armor on the chest and legs. It also features a small black Avengers logo on the chest.
Much to the delight of many fans, Marvel chose not to give Steve Rogers a unique Captain America helmet. Instead, he wore the same style of helmet as the rest of the team, similar to what Ant-Man uses.
Avengers: Endgame is the thrilling conclusion to the epic Infinity Saga. Featuring stars like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth, the movie follows the Avengers as they try to reverse the devastating effects of Thanos’s snap, which eliminated half of all life, and restore the universe. You can now watch Avengers: Endgame on Disney+.
What Else Was Scrapped From Avengers: Endgame?
Given that *Endgame* remains the highest-grossing movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and the second-highest-grossing film ever), it’s understandable that Marvel explored many different designs for its characters. Despite the movie already being over three hours long, a significant amount of footage didn’t make the final cut.
Early designs for Hawkeye’s suit included the purple color previously only seen on Kate Bishop in live-action. Ultimately, he wore the familiar black combat outfit from past films and his Ronin gear – the look he adopted after losing his family – in *Endgame*.
During the planning stages of *Endgame*, Marvel considered a hint at the future *WandaVision* series. The idea was to show Wanda Maximoff discovering Vision’s body in a body bag, a scene that ultimately became part of Episode 8 of *WandaVision* instead.
Given that *Endgame* was already the longest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s not surprising some scenes were removed before it came out in theaters. We can expect to see similar behind-the-scenes images from future *Avengers* films like *Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*, which are predicted to be as long, or even longer, than *Endgame*.
