Throughout High Potential, Morganās biggest challenges have often come from her own behavior. She tends to act like she knows everything, which ironically draws attention to her lack of self-control. While Lieutenant Soto has always supported her, the recent episode āGroundedā created a serious problem that could jeopardize Morganās position as a consultant with the LAPD.
Honestly, it feels a little weird that we’re halfway through season two already, smack in the middle of the 2026 TV lineup, and it’s only now that someone in charge is finally calling out how questionable Morgan’s methods are. It makes sense, I guess, but I really wish they’d picked almost anyone else for this storyline. I’ll get into why a little further down.
Morgan Very Justifiably Got Fired For Not Following Orders, If Only For A Hot Second
Given that the show revolves around Morganās incredible memory and ability to solve crimes ā skills the LAPD doesnāt want to lose ā it makes sense her character isnāt constantly reprimanded by her bosses. While I enjoy seeing the single mom storyline, High Potential generally portrays its employees as capable, so it feels a little out of place when Morgan is allowed to bend the rules so freely.
When Steve Howeās Captain Nick Wagner arrived in Season 2, he initially seemed like a strict and demanding leader, and he hasnāt exactly made things easy for Morgan. However, I still canāt figure out what motivates him. He seems to hold everyone to impossibly high standards. Even when Soto confronted him, she didn’t say anything groundbreaking, and he surprisingly took it well, meaning a conflict with Morgan seems unlikely.
Someone from outside the department had to intervene, with Internal Affairs sending an investigator who has documented how Morgan has overspent department funds. While theyāre saving money by paying her a reduced salary, her insistent recommendations to medical examiners have resulted in $12,000 in unnecessary rush fees. Considering just that one instance cost so much, the total amount of her overspending is likely enough for the city to sue her.
So, Iām happy the show High Potential finally dealt with this problem, even though Sotoās attempt to blackmail someone probably means Morgan will be left alone from now on. Now, let’s talk about what I didn’t enjoy.
I Wish Any Other Guest Star Had Played The IA Investigator
Given how consistently good High Potential is at choosing actors, itās not surprising that one casting choice wouldnāt appeal to me. Thatās how I feel about Jesse Bradford, known from Bring It On and The West Wing, joining the show as Solomon, who is presented as Morganās biggest challenge.
I genuinely have nothing against Bradford as a person, and I wish him all the best. However, I consistently dislike his performances in movies and TV shows. Every character he’s played, I’ve really disliked ā and I mean really disliked them. It’s a strong feeling, maybe even incredibly strong.
His intensely irritating performances likely stem from the over-the-top arrogance and self-absorption he consistently brings to his villainous roles. (A prime example is his character in a 2025 episode of The Hunting Party, though his work in I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell remains the gold standard.) It seems casting directors deliberately seek out actors who frustrate me, otherwise Bradford would play more sympathetic, emotionally complex characters.
I was immediately thrown off by his awful character as soon as he appeared, and I quickly disliked all the heroes. He had absolutely no charm. The idea that he would be the calm, authoritative figure with the power to punish and eliminate Morgan? It felt completely wrong ā like expecting a genuinely good deed from someone evil. I just couldn’t stand him.
I was really glad when Soto revealed her evidence and caught the guy having an affair with the NYPD Chief’s wife. It confirms what I already suspected! While I still believe Morgan should be held accountable for what she did, I’m relieved it wasn’t Jesse Bradford’s Solomon who managed to stop her.
