Okay, so Dreams isn’t getting official updates anymore, which is a bummer. But honestly, the community is still super active! There’s a small group of us who are really passionate about it, and we’re continuing to make amazing things. It’s awesome to see!
BadRobo82, a dedicated creator in the Dreams community known for beautiful designs, recently shared a video that’s getting a lot of attention. They built a Crash Bandicoot level so realistic, it’s hard to tell it apart from an official game level.
While it doesn’t appear to have been shared publicly, you can watch a video of the stage below:
BadRobo82 shared on X that they created the game level as a personal project in just one week, using a Crash character designed by PickaPlayer. They also noted it’s fully playable on PlayStation VR and expressed amazement at the capabilities of the Dreams game creation system.
The level design closely resembles the beginning stages of the original Crash Bandicoot. It’s a straightforward path filled with boxes to smash, enemies to defeat, and hazards to avoid. The environment is also richly decorated with jungle elements, staying true to the game’s aesthetic.
While it doesn’t reach the complexity of Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania, this creation still showcases the power of Media Molecule’s tools with its appealing colors and familiar elements from the Crash Bandicoot series. It’s another great example of what users can achieve with the platform.
Plans for versions of Dreams on PC and PlayStation 5 were cancelled after the game didn’t perform as well as hoped. Media Molecule, the game’s developer, is now focusing on a different project.
