Steven Knight is famous for creating the popular BBC series Peaky Blinders, but he’s also worked on a lot of other television shows. One of his recent successes just launched its second season.
In 2025, Knight released the boxing drama A Thousand Blows. The show was immediately praised by critics and quickly renewed for another season. After the premiere of Season 2, A Thousand Blows became a popular hit on Disney+, according to FlixPatrol.
Although the series is available on Hulu, it hasn’t appeared on that platform’s charts yet. However, it quickly landed in second place on Disney+’s global charts. It couldn’t quite beat out Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which has held the top spot for several weeks since the show’s second season premiered.
Although the historical crime series hasn’t become a chart-topper anywhere, it performed best in the UK and Ireland upon its initial release.
Steven Knight is known for his captivating historical dramas, and his new series, A Thousand Blows, continues that trend. The show is set in 1880s London, even earlier than Peaky Blinders, and centers around the brutal world of bare-knuckle boxing. Inspired by the true story of the Forty Elephants gang, A Thousand Blows follows an all-female criminal organization as they navigate—and clash with—the dangerous underground boxing scene.
Despite some initial debate, the film ultimately earned high praise, with critics giving it an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were also largely positive, with a 78% approval score.
Season 2 continued the show’s strong start, earning a 92% approval rating from critics based on 12 reviews. Praised for its visuals, acting, and plot, the new season offers a more focused story. Unlike many shows that require viewers to learn about a world and characters from scratch, Season 2 immediately immerses you in the lives of well-developed, compelling characters.
The film A Thousand Blows features Erin Doherty as Mary Carr, Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow, and Stephen Graham as Henry “Sugar” Goodson.
What’s Next for the Peaky Blinders Creator?
As a long-time fan, I thought the end of the original Peaky Blinders was truly it, but creator Steven Knight just keeps returning to that world, and honestly, I’m not complaining! We’ve already seen new entries like A Thousand Blows and the Netflix series The House of Guinness, but Knight has confirmed the core Peaky Blinders saga will get a proper finale. And it doesn’t stop there – he’s also planning a completely new series set in the same universe, though with a significant jump forward in time. It’s exciting to see the story continue, even if it’s in a different form!
As a huge fan of Steven Knight’s work, especially Peaky Blinders, I was thrilled to hear about his next big project! He’s writing a new film, and get this – Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, is going to direct it. It’s going to be amazing to see what these two creative forces come up with together, especially after enjoying the world of Peaky Blinders so much.
A Thousand Blows is streaming on Hulu.
