Incredible LEGO Thundercats Set Could be a Real Thing (But it Needs Your Help)

Fans might finally be able to buy a LEGO Thundercats set, but it’s not a sure thing and depends on getting a lot of support. LEGO considers many different ideas, but it can be difficult to actually create sets based on popular franchises. For a while, LEGO only released DC Comics sets featuring Batman. Luckily, there’s a website called LEGO Ideas where fans can suggest and support sets they want to see made. This is how LEGO was able to create sets for popular properties like Twilight, The Goonies, and even the Pixar character Luxo, all thanks to strong fan interest.

There’s currently a campaign to create a Thundercats set, but it needs a lot more support to succeed. With only 118 days left, they’ve reached over halfway to their goal of 10,000 supporters, currently having 6,890.

What Do the Thundercats Need to Get a LEGO Set?

In 2024, LEGO enthusiast MOCturnal created a Thundercats set. It’s been available for around two months, with just 118 days remaining in that period. MOCturnal described the 1361-piece set as a nostalgic tribute, bringing the ThunderCats and their Thundertank to life with LEGO bricks. The set includes the Thundertank vehicle and minifigures of Lino-O, Panthero, Cheetara, Tygra, WillyKit, WillyKat, and Snarf.

This project has been underway for nearly two years, driven by fan demand. It initially reached 100 supporters on June 3, 2024, earning an extra year to reach the 10,000 goal. It quickly gained momentum, hitting 1,000 supporters just two days later and receiving another six months. On July 7, 2025, it reached 5,000 supporters, adding another six months to the timeline. Now, with only 118 days remaining, it still needs 3,110 more supporters to achieve the 10,000 needed.

LEGO Ideas allows fans to submit their own designs for LEGO sets. If a design receives 10,000 supporters, LEGO will review it to potentially turn it into an official product. The original creator of a successful set earns 1% of the sales. Getting 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee production – LEGO still needs to approve the design, and it can’t violate any existing licenses.

Many fans have requested a building set based on the animated series Gravity Falls, but it didn’t receive enough support to be considered. Other popular ideas that weren’t accepted include sets based on Shaun of the Dead‘s Winchester, The Legend of Zelda, Firefly‘s Serenity, and Portal. While there’s still a chance for a Thundercats set to be made, fans need to rally quickly, as they have less than four months to reach the required 10,000 supporters.
