Fans were thrilled with the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PC and Xbox Series X|S in late 2024, and now Nintendo Switch players can join the adventure! The game, which continues the story after Raiders of the Lost Ark, is launching on the Nintendo Switch family of consoles on May 12th thanks to a new version for the Switch 2. I recently had a chance to play and review this new Switch 2 port, stepping into the role of Dr. Jones himself.
The new Indiana Jones game on the Switch 2 delivers another exciting adventure, staying true to the spirit of the original movies. You’ll find familiar scenes and moments that echo the films. Taking advantage of the Switch 2’s capabilities, the game includes motion controls. However, it also has some visual issues that are reminiscent of earlier games on the original Switch. While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is enjoyable, it doesn’t quite reach the high bar set by other major action games on the platform.

Indiana Jones & The Great Circle Does Just Fine on Switch 2, But I’ve Seen Better

The Switch 2, released last year, has allowed for ports of several big adventure and action RPG games that the original Switch couldn’t handle. I’ve tried out a few, including Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which really showed what the Switch 2 is capable of. Because of that, I found the performance of The Great Circle a little disappointing in comparison.
Okay, so the game starts off with a scene that feels pretty familiar if you’re a fan of the original movie. But honestly, right away I was pulled out of it by some weird graphical glitches. The draw distance and shadows were really buggy, and it messed with both the cutscenes and actually playing the game. It wasn’t game-breaking, but it was definitely noticeable throughout. My whip would sometimes clip right through walls when I was climbing, and the shadows kept flickering in the background during cutscenes. Plus, there was this annoying lag whenever a cutscene started or ended – I actually started to worry the game was going to crash! It only crashed once, thankfully, but that’s still stressful when you’re not sure how far back your last save was.
Aside from one crash, the game mostly had small visual issues and occasional slowdown. These problems rarely interfered with playing, but they consistently highlighted the fact that this was a Switch version of a game originally made for other systems. This is the first time I’ve noticed that in a Switch port so far.
Fans Who Want a Portable Indiana Jones Experience Won’t Go Amiss with Its Switch 2 Port

Even with a few visual imperfections, the Switch 2 version of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a solid port. It offers the same exciting adventure and interesting new story that players enjoyed when it first came out. The graphics look good, especially when played in handheld mode, and the game is still just as fun to play. If you’re looking to experience Indiana Jones on the go, this Switch 2 edition is a great choice. Plus, it includes motion controls, which can make the game even more immersive.
Okay, so the motion controls… they felt a little tacked on, honestly. They’re mostly for the whip, and weren’t super precise when I was trying to use them. I definitely had a much better time playing with my Pro Controller. That said, swinging the whip with the motion controls to climb walls or leap across gaps was really fun, I’ll admit that!
While The Great Circle on Switch 2 isn’t the most polished port compared to versions on other systems, it’s still a fun game to play. You might notice a few small visual issues and a little bit of slowdown, but overall it’s a solid experience. If you only have a Switch 2, you can finally enjoy this Indiana Jones adventure without needing another console. However, if you have the option, playing it on a more powerful system would be ideal.
ComicBook was given a copy of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for the Nintendo Switch to review.
