Indie Game That Released Between Silksong & Borderlands 4 Quietly Tops Steam Charts

This month, popular new games like *Hollow Knight: Silksong* and *Borderlands 4* have dominated the gaming world. Both have been commercial successes, but *Borderlands 4* has also been the subject of discussion due to technical problems and how the company handled them. As a result, some excellent games haven’t received as much attention as they deserve, even though they’ve still managed to find an audience.

I’ve been checking out a really cool indie game called *Shape of Dreams* by Lizard Smoothie, a developer out of South Korea. It’s a co-op roguelite, and it’s been a huge hit! Apparently, it’s already sold over 200,000 copies since launching on September 10th, with 100,000 of those sales happening in just the first day. Right now, I’m seeing over 30,000 people playing it on Steam at peak times, and everyone who’s bought it seems to be really enjoying it. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into that kind of game!

Shape of Dreams Has Become an Instant Top Seller

After a fantastic launch, the team behind *Shape of Dreams* used X (formerly Twitter) to express their gratitude to players for making the game a quick hit on Steam.

The launch of ‘The Shape of Dreams’ was a huge success! The game sold over 100,000 copies in just one day and had more than 30,000 people playing at the same time, all exploring its unique and imaginative worlds. It quickly became one of the top-selling games on Steam, and the developers say this is just the start. You can find the full story on PC Gamer.

It’s surprising that *Shape of Dreams* became successful, launching so close to two major game releases. Many believe the developer’s strong connection with its players is a key reason. The game has built a lively community, with over 41,000 members on its Discord server and an active subreddit, which is impressive for a first game from this studio.

The game’s success was likely boosted by a 20% discount, which conveniently matched the popular $20 price of the highly anticipated *Hollow Knight Silksong*. It also launched as part of two bundles, offering great value for players interested in games like *Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor* and *Warm Snow*. *Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor* has consistently released updates as promised and is currently available for $12.99 in Early Access. With its official launch on September 17th, this mining roguelike, along with other indie releases, has created a positive environment that seems to be benefiting many independent games.

It’s great that even with the release of major games like *Borderlands 4* and highly anticipated indie titles like *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, other games are still finding success. There’s been some concern about the future of smaller studios, especially as more players choose game subscriptions over buying games outright. With larger companies increasingly offering launch-day passes, the fact that games like *Shape of Dreams* are still reaching an audience shows real staying power. This game launched without any of the typical paid add-ons – no extra downloadable content, cosmetic items, or other purchases – which is becoming less common these days. After the promising release of *Silksong*, it will be interesting to see if other indie studios can also release polished, high-quality games for around $20.
