After five years in development, a popular indie game is finally launching! It’s earned over 20,000 positive reviews from players during its Early Access period. While some games leave Early Access quickly, this one has been a long-term project, first appearing on Steam in 2021. Players who’ve been following its progress are excited about the full release.
After a successful period in Early Access, Timberborn officially launched on March 12, 2026. The game has been significantly improved with seven major updates, reaching version 1.0. Currently, it boasts almost 21,000 positive reviews on Steam, earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating from players. Mechanistry has sold over 1 million copies during development, which helped support the game’s continued progress. Now that it’s fully released, it’s a great time to check it out if you haven’t already!
Timberborn has been released
If you haven’t heard of Timberborn, it’s a city-building game where you manage a colony of beavers. But it’s more than just that! The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world after humans are gone, and it challenges you to build a thriving beaver civilization amidst droughts and pollution. It features clever beavers, unique vertical building, realistic water effects, and the ability to reshape the land – all with a heavy emphasis on wood! It’s a really fun and different take on the city-building genre, and fans of simulation games will definitely enjoy it. Be warned though, everything is beaver and wood-themed, so expect a lot of playful jokes!
Development of the game started in 2018 with playtesting, allowing players to try out early versions. It took several years to reach Early Access, where it quickly gained a dedicated following. Over the past five years, the developers used feedback from these Early Access players to refine the game’s main features. While already playable, it needed further polish before its official release, which has now arrived.
With so many creative games available, Timberborn truly stands out as both imaginative and enjoyable. While this isn’t a formal review, I’ve had a great time playing it, and I think fans of the genre will too. The game features diverse maps, four unique factions, endless building possibilities, and a completely new world to discover. It really feels like it’s “dam” time to join the beaver revolution! Timberborn is available now on Steam, and if you have an Early Access version, make sure to update to version 1.0 before you jump back in.
