Naughty Dog, known for developing hits like Ghost of Tsushima and the Infamous series, has expressed interest in revisiting its PlayStation-exclusive superhero series. With numerous acclaimed franchises under its wing, PlayStation sets high standards for quality. The games are expected to deliver a cinematic experience that matches the polished, expensive blockbuster exclusives fans have come to anticipate from the platform. This focus on excellence often means these games require significant time and resources to develop, leading to some projects being postponed temporarily while they focus on others. For instance, Naughty Dog has momentarily halted further work on The Last of Us series to concentrate on other tasks.
Despite the fact that some studios have shifted their focus to larger projects like Spider-Man, Horizon, and Ghost games, there remains a strong desire among fans for the continuation of certain franchises. For instance, many are eagerly awaiting the release of Resistance 4, a new installment in the Killzone series, and a fresh Infamous game. These titles were integral to the success of the PS3 and contributed significantly to the initial year of the PS4. However, production on these games seems to have halted, leaving fans yearning for more. The next project from Sucker Punch Productions, creators of Ghost of Tsushima, is expected to be Ghost of Yotei. This choice appears fitting given the acclaim received by their previous work.
Infamous Developer Is Open to Returning to the Series
Fans are eagerly anticipating a comeback for the Infamous superhero franchise, which was developed by Sucker Punch during the PS3 era. This series offered a distinctive perspective on the genre that connected with players. Since 2014’s Infamous Second Son, the genre has advanced significantly, and technology has made great strides. It would be intriguing to witness what Sucker Punch could create with the franchise now, given these developments. It seems that Sucker Punch is considering revisiting the Infamous series at some point in the future.
In an interview with Game Informer, Nate Fox, the creative director of Sucker Punch, expressed his desire to continue working on the Infamous series. He mentioned a potential trilogy re-release, but for now, their studio is fully committed to completing Ghost of Yōtei.
It’d be fantastic if the Infamous series could be re-released, as hinted by Fox’s suggestion. Currently, the first two Infamous games are not natively accessible on PS5, making them essentially exclusive to the PS3. While Infamous Second Son can be played on the newer console through backward compatibility, it would be wonderful to have the entire trilogy updated for modern hardware. Whether or not this happens is yet to be determined, but it’d be exciting if a team like Bluepoint were to create a collection like that in the future.
The specifics of a fresh Infamous game under the guidance of Sucker Punch are yet to be seen, but it could be a hint towards a comeback once Ghost of Yotei is completed. Since the Ghost series consists of standalone stories, there’s no immediate need for a sequel. With each installment featuring unique characters and settings, Sucker Punch can explore an Infamous game if they come up with a compelling concept. Whether or not this happens remains to be seen.
Ghost of Yotei will release for PS5 on October 2nd.
