This week sees the return of Marvel’s most unconventional heroes in Inglorious X-Force #1. Launching a new chapter for the X-Men following the Age of Revelation, this new storyline, “Shadows of Tomorrow,” sends Cable back in time with a crucial mission: saving the future. But this time, things aren’t going as planned. He’s facing the challenge with limited technology, unable to reach his AI assistant Belle, and the danger is greater than ever before.
Cable is starting a new X-Force team with very little to go on – just three names etched onto his arm (Archangel, Hellverine, and Boom-Boom). Their initial mission: find the future mutant President of the United States. This first issue kicks off a compelling mystery for both the team and the readers, hinting at serious trouble ahead. ComicBook spoke with writer Tim Seeley about the story, its surprises, and what’s to come, and it sounds like a thrilling adventure. We’re also offering an exclusive preview of issue #2. Be warned: spoilers for Inglorious X-Force #1 follow.
Inglorious X-Force Asks Some Different Questions Than You Might Expect

When the new comic series Inglorious X-Force was announced, fans knew Cable would return, but with a memory loss. Now that the first issue is out, it’s clear Cable is more disadvantaged and vulnerable than anyone expected. The big question is: how will this personal struggle affect the larger story?
I’ve been a Cable fan since I was 13 when he first appeared! While I love the character, I always felt he was a bit too powerful and self-reliant. I wanted to create a situation where he had to depend on his intelligence, experience, and, importantly, other people. However, I didn’t want to change his core personality – he’s still a grumpy, determined, and impatient person with a long-term perspective. This creates interesting conflict and allows for unique dynamics with each member of the team.
I was really looking forward to seeing Boom-Boom back, but I was even more surprised by Unveil’s return and her connection to the Mutant Liberation Front. It’s interesting to see her working with Kali, who seems to be leading things as an influencer. It feels like the story is making a point about how much power influencers can have – and how that power can be misused. Could you talk about why you decided to take Unveil in this direction, and why you chose to focus on an influencer like Kali in this story?
I created the character Unveil with Salva Espin for the Age of X-Man series, and I always really liked how she looked. Seeing as Blink survived the Age of Apocalypse and traveled between universes, I thought Unveil could do the same! It also felt natural for her rebellious beliefs to lead her to join the Mutant Liberation Front.
I’ve always been drawn to the idea of the Mutant Liberation Front, but with the rise of Krakoa, they need to stand for more than just mutant radicalism. We kept the core concept of activist mutants, but gave them a new leader inspired by Stryfe, reimagined for today’s world. This new leader, Kali, isn’t operating secretly in the shadows – she’s building an army and spreading her ideas through a streaming network. This allows us to explore questions about who really shapes our society, why we give them so much influence, and what qualifies them to have that power beyond just personality.
Okay, let me tell you, this issue threw me for a loop! The biggest shocker, hands down, is who Cable failed to save. Honestly, the writers picking Kamala Khan for this role felt… unexpected. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that choice, and I’m really curious to see where they go with it.
What I loved about the original X-Force comic was how it showed young, hopeful characters clashing with the harsh realities of being adults. It was about a naive newcomer, like Cannonball, being pulled into a gritty world by a world-weary veteran. I wanted to recapture that feeling in this story, and Ms. Marvel perfectly embodies that youthful idealism for a modern audience in 2026.
I can also explore how different generations see the world through the characters. For example, Archangel represents traditional ‘boomer’ perspectives, Boom Boom embodies Gen X attitudes, and Kamala is a Gen Z character—creating natural conflict and interesting dynamics.
The issue ends by revealing the scars on Cable’s arm aren’t just a list of potential teammates – they’re actually hints about the identity of the killer. This discovery will clearly have major consequences for the story going forward.
The story will follow Cable as he investigates possible assassins, trying to determine who is guilty and who isn’t. I’ve always enjoyed stories about teams where everyone has their own motivations, and this allows me to really delve into that concept. The first five issues will play out like a detective story focused on solving a murder.
One of the biggest surprises is the appearance of Domino at the end, who actually seems more informed than Cable. Can you share any hints about what her role will be in the story?
As a movie fan, I always love a good twist, so I really wanted to include some surprises in the story. That’s where the idea of a ‘shadow member’ came in. Domino, who’s basically Cable’s closest friend, is watching over him, and she quickly starts to sense something isn’t right. Honestly, her ‘luck’ powers are tricky to write, so I challenged myself to find a fresh way to use them. You’ll see how that unfolds in the first few issues – she’s going to need every bit of luck she can get!
