Inside Nina Dobrev’s Busy Life Since Ending Engagement to Shaun White

Having a yacht is always a nice perk, but it can be particularly helpful if you’re going through a tough breakup towards the end of summer.

Just a week after news broke that Nina Dobrev and Shaun White had called off their engagement, the actress—known for The Vampire Diaries—spent time on the Italian coast in September with friends. The group included Zac Efron, Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh Sperry, and Chace Crawford with his girlfriend Kelsey Merritt.

The photos Keleigh posted showed Nina genuinely seemed to be enjoying her trip. Nina had visited family in Canada right before the getaway, and everything looked authentic.

I was absolutely floored when I heard Nina and Shaun broke up! Five years, and they seemed so perfect. I mean, he proposed in October 2024 with this massive five-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond – it was all over the internet! And then, just six days before the news dropped, she posted this adorable picture of them in bed – they were both covered up, but she had a sheet mask on, looking so cute and cozy. It just makes no sense! I’m still reeling, honestly.

Okay, so you might have missed this, but when Nina was at the Toronto International Film Festival recently, people noticed she wasn’t wearing her engagement ring. At the time, it didn’t seem like a big deal, but now everyone’s talking about it! It seems like she deliberately left it at home, and people are wondering if there’s a reason behind it. It’s one of those things that makes you go ‘hmm,’ you know?

Nina explained to TopMob News last March that she and her partner weren’t in a hurry to get married and wanted to savor their engagement. She felt that while people spend a large portion of their lives as either a boyfriend or a husband, the time spent as a fiancé is relatively brief, and she wanted to fully enjoy that special period.

Still, wedding planning had begun when she and Shaun called off their vows entirely.

Nina recently told TMZ at LAX that she’s optimistic about what’s to come, noting that change is the one constant in life. She also quickly dismissed speculation that she and Zac, who were both single on their trip, were romantically involved.

After spending time traveling to warmer locations, including a stop in Paris on her way to a wedding in the South of France, Nina and Shaun purchased a $4.3 million house in the Hollywood Hills in 2023. As of July, they were still renovating the property.

The Los Angeles resident announced in November she’d be spending some time in New York City, sharing a photo on Instagram with a keychain and writing, “She’s a New Yorker.”

Nina has been traveling constantly lately. She recently attended the British Fashion Council Awards in London, followed by the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. While in Jeddah, she met stars like Jessica Alba, Dakota Johnson, and Rita Ora at a Women in Cinema event on December 5th.

She celebrated Christmas with her family, posting pictures of warm scenes inside and fun times playing in the snow.

For New Year’s, Nina Dobrev celebrated on a yacht in St. Barts. She was joined by Miles Teller and Keleigh Sperry to watch the fireworks, along with Chord Overstreet, Alix Earle, and Nina’s former boyfriend, Glen Powell, who was there with his new girlfriend, Michelle Randolph.

Nina shared a series of photos on January 3rd with the caption, ‘Old friends, new friends… now all best friends!’ She explained that she hadn’t laughed, felt so inspired, or smiled so much in a long time, calling it the perfect way to start the new year and expressing how lucky and grateful she feels.

After that, I returned to Los Angeles for an event before the Golden Globes on January 8th. The next day, friends gathered to celebrate Nina’s 37th birthday with a fun “Forever 30” party, including cake and a tiara.

A few days later, she was seen with a man wearing KISS makeup in Los Angeles. It turned out they were shooting a campaign for a new collaboration between e.l.f. Cosmetics and Liquid Death, promoting their Lip Embalm.

But wherever Nina ultimately lands, her nearest and dearest are sure to follow.

She once joked that she spent most of her life traveling, both for work and fun, as she was always on the go. However, she told Architectural Digest in 2021 that the pandemic was the first time she’d been home for a long stretch.

She decided it was time to update her West Hollywood home to make it welcoming for everyone – kids, friends, and her dogs. She explained, “I want a space where everyone feels comfortable and can enjoy themselves.”

Okay, so Nina’s still traveling a lot, which is fine, honestly, because she’s Nina. But she told Food 52 that she absolutely loves having people over, like, it’s her thing! She said she loves to cook and host whenever she can, and she’s always looking for an excuse to throw a party. Seriously, any excuse. It’s just so…her! I knew it!

When things get hectic, I find it incredibly relaxing to just be at home, disconnect from everything, put on some music, and try out a new recipe – even if it means making a big mess in the kitchen!

Okay, so I was scrolling through TikTok and I saw Nina posting this amazing video! It was set to Ariana Grande’s “Break Free” – you know, the one from 2014?! – and she was lip-syncing along to “If you want it, take it / I should have said it before,” but get this… she flipped off the camera while she was doing it! It was SO iconic, I’ve watched it like a million times. Seriously, everything Ariana does is perfect, and Nina totally nailed this!

She subtly revealed her bare ring finger, silently communicating that she could no longer mask her true feelings or the situation. She seemed to be saying she’d attempted to appear okay, but couldn’t maintain the facade any longer.
