Award-winning actor Steve Pemberton is now part of the ensemble for ITV’s upcoming phone hacking series entitled “The Hack”. He will be working alongside acting greats such as David Tennant, Robert Carlyle, and Toby Jones on this project.
In a new development, the actor, famously associated with shows like Inside No. 9, The League of Gentlemen, and Killing Eve, is now part of the cast for this drama, taking on the role of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.
The narrative will delve into the chronology of occurrences spanning from 2002 to 2012, focusing on the inquiry into the infamous phone-hacking controversy that eventually resulted in the closure of the News of the World.
In a new role, Tennant will portray investigative journalist Nick Davies. Meanwhile, Carlyle is set to appear as retired Metropolitan Police detective chief superintendent Dave Cook, and Toby Jones takes on the part of former editor-in-chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger.
Tennant has been cast as Nick Davies, an investigative journalist; Carlyle will play Dave Cook, a retired Met Police detective chief superintendent; and Toby Jones will portray Alan Rusbridger, the former editor-in-chief of The Guardian.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled about the upcoming series penned by Jack Thorne, where I find myself immersed in the shoes of characters like Davies and Cook. This gripping tale unfolds as Davies delves into allegations of illicit activities at the News of the World, while simultaneously, we follow Cook’s journey unraveling the mystery surrounding the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan. It’s shaping up to be an engaging exploration of two intricate narratives that intertwine in unexpected ways!

In front of the camera, Lewis Arnold is the one skillfully directing the series. His impressive resume includes Time, Sherwood, and The Long Shadow as some of his past projects.
Furthermore gracing the cast of The Hack are Rose Leslie, known as Miss Austen; Dougray Scott, playing Crime; Eve Myles from Torchwood; Adrian Lester famous for Hustle; Katherine Kelly recognized in Protection; Kevin Doyle well-known for Line of Duty; Neil Maskell of Hijack fame; and Lara Pulver who shines in Spooks.
Furthermore, Lee Ingleby from The Long Shadow, Pip Torrens known for his work in Poldark, Lisa McGrillis famous for Rivals, Sean Pertwee who has worked on The Night Caller, and Robert Bathurst recognized from Cold Feet are also part of this production.
Here are some of the actors who will be joining the cast include Richard Pepple (from “The Rig”), Nadia Albina (“Passenger”), Phil Davis (“Whitechapel”), Ace Bhatti (“Alex Rider”) and Charlie Brooks (“EastEnders”). They complete our roster.

In our narrative approach, we’ve intentionally ventured into unconventional storytelling methods, much like how the movie Adolescence dared to do so with its own storyline.
We’re not going to present this show in a typical way. It seems to me that viewers today crave unique, non-traditional storytelling. I might be off base, but that’s my current intuition.
The Hack” is a collaborative production between ITV Studios and Stan in Australia, along with AC Chapter One and One Shoe Films.
