Inside Patrick Mahomes’ Winning Love Story With Brittany Mahomes

Even as a teen, Patrick Mahomes was making game-winning plays. 

Before Patrick Mahomes became a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, and before he and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their third child, daughter Golden Raye, in January, he was a high school athlete focused on a different kind of big moment. As a star quarterback, basketball player, and baseball player at Whitehouse High School, the 18-year-old was planning a memorable promposal for his girlfriend of over two years.

For her senior year in 2013, he famously wrote all over her car, which Brittany said really frightened her. Later that year, he asked her to the winter formal with a sweet and simple cookie cake. For the next school dance in 2014, he went with a golf theme, creating a homemade sign and using golf balls to spell out his invitation.

These teenagers were head over heels for each other, constantly showing off each other’s achievements online, and genuinely believed their relationship would last.

It didn’t matter that he was about to become head coach at Texas Tech, which was 450 miles away from where she was already playing soccer at the University of Texas-Tyler.

Back in November 2013, she shared a photo with a sweet message, saying this boy means the world to her and that she’s incredibly proud of him. She finished with a loving ‘I love you so much!’

Many college freshmen with big dreams have tried and failed, but Patrick and his high school sweetheart quickly and easily succeeded.

It feels like just yesterday Patrick won his first Super Bowl back in 2020, but then a few months later, we were all back at Arrowhead Stadium to celebrate with his championship ring. But he had a surprise for us! He actually proposed to Brittany that day. She later shared how he turned a day meant to celebrate *him* into a celebration of *us* – it was so sweet! It really showed how much he’s grown, going from a high school sweetheart to a true NFL superstar with a perfectly planned proposal.

The simple, homemade decorations were traded for a glamorous, professionally-lit marquee and a luxurious suite filled with flowers and candles. Instead of prom tickets, they exchanged an emerald-cut diamond – its size reflecting the number of years they’d been together.

Brittany often remembered the words he spoke, a moment that felt permanently fixed in her memory. She described how he made the day absolutely perfect, saying, “You left me speechless, and it was even better than I could have hoped for.”

Brittany and her husband, both now 30 years old and born just 17 days apart in 1995, had another exciting announcement. Four weeks later, she shared the news on social media with a playful message to her parents: “Mom & Dad, we’re making a quick stop at the wedding!”

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes welcomed their daughter, Sterling Skye Mahomes, in February 2021, which paused their wedding plans for a while. They finally got married in Maui thirteen months later, but they had been together and planning their future as a couple for almost ten years by that point.

In March 2019, celebrating their seventh anniversary, Brittany responded to questions about marriage plans – a year and a half before they got engaged. She playfully told those asking when they’d tie the knot, “Whenever we want!”

No matter what critics say, these two people have learned to not let it bother them.

Brittany recently shared that she used to be very affected by what people said on social media, but now she doesn’t care what others think. She credits her partner, Patrick, with helping her reach this point of self-assurance. He’s given her the strength and confidence to be comfortable with herself, her relationship, and her life, so she no longer feels the need to worry about outside opinions. She discussed this on the *Whoop* podcast in August 2024.

Because these two have been making winning plays for awhile now.

While Patrick was becoming a star quarterback in college – ranking third all-time in passing yards for his team and leading the country in total offense during his last two seasons – his girlfriend was also achieving success as an athlete on the soccer field.

Brittany chose to play soccer at the University of Texas campus near her home, encouraged by friends already on the team who described a strong sense of community. Her exceptional talent was clear during her senior year when she scored a record-breaking 18 goals, attracting attention from professional soccer leagues around the world.

And so weeks after Patrick was selected 10th in the 2017 NFL draft, cutting his college career a year short, Brittany signed a contract of her own with Iceland’s UMF Afturelding/Fram (“I could never pass up such an amazing experience to go do what I love,” she explained), leading local station KLTV to dub the then-21-year-olds “the power couple of East Texas.”

After a year of traveling over 3,000 miles – during which Brittany won a championship and Patrick became the Chiefs’ starting quarterback – they decided to put down roots in western Missouri.

Brittany moved to Kansas City to be with Patrick and put her kinesiology degree to work by starting her own at-home workout business, Brittany Lynne Fitness.

She explained her decision to leave professional sports by saying that she discovered a real passion for training itself. While she’d always been athletic – playing sports throughout her life and soccer in college – she found she enjoyed being in the gym even more. College athletics also taught her about the importance of strength, wellness, and staying in top physical condition.

She’s also picked up some marketing skills. Through her fitness posts on Instagram, a collaboration with the clothing brand Balance Athletica, and her popular game day outfits that consistently get hundreds of thousands of likes, she’s cultivated a strong and devoted following – even extending to her dogs, Steel and Silver, who have their own fans!

While Patrick Mahomes was achieving football success – winning championships, becoming the youngest Super Bowl MVP, and earning lucrative contracts – his wife, Brittany, was building her own business ventures. She joined the ownership group that brought the Kansas City Current women’s soccer team to the city, and Patrick also invested in the team in 2023.

I deeply admire the amazing work these women do every day,” she stated. “We have such incredible fans and a wonderful community here in Kansas City, and I’m excited to support this team.

First she had some business to take care of with her own squad. 

Shortly after signing his massive 10-year, $477 million contract extension in 2020, Patrick Mahomes purchased an 8-acre property with plans to build his dream home. He explained in the Netflix series *Quarterback* that he felt secure about staying long-term, thinking, ‘Since I’m going to be here for a while, I might as well build exactly what I want.’

After his second Super Bowl victory, the couple settled into a home with incredible features – a large pool, a golf hole, a 50-yard football field, and plenty of room for their family to grow.

Brittany and Patrick welcomed their first child, Sterling, after getting married in Hawaii. In November 2022, they had a son named Bronze, and in July 2024, they announced they were expecting another baby girl. Brittany shared on Instagram that they were excited for their third child, writing, “Round three, here we come!”

During a press conference on January 14th, Patrick indicated he wasn’t currently planning a fourth installment, saying, “I initially aimed for three, and we’ve achieved that. We’ll pause there for now and revisit the possibility of doing another one later on.”

Either way, the Mahomes’ future has continued to appear bright. 

Patrick walked onto the football field with his team, while Brittany was busy leading cheers. She even posted a picture on Instagram with Taylor Swift, captioning it “Twinning & Winning.” For those who didn’t know, Taylor is engaged to Travis Kelce, Patrick’s star tight end.

Although she’s not a famous musician like a Grammy winner, this Sports Illustrated swimsuit model is definitely Patrick’s most valuable player – his number one in his eyes.

Patrick told TopMob News in July 2023 that she is a very sensible and supportive person. He described her as his constant source of strength, someone who helps him overcome difficult challenges.

She’s the driving force behind his success, supporting him completely both on and off the field. He credits her unwavering support as the key to everything he’s achieved, telling TopMob, “Having someone who supports you every single day is the reason I’m where I am today.”

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes first started dating in 2012 while they were both students at Whitehouse High School in Texas. After dating for eight years, Patrick proposed to Brittany in September 2020 at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Just under a month after that, on November 28th, Brittany gave birth to a son named Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III.

Sterling and Brittany cheered on Patrick as the Chiefs won the 2023 Super Bowl.

On the first Monday in May, the pair posed together on the Met Gala red carpet.

Okay, so you will NOT believe how amazing Mother’s Day was! I was totally glued to the Kansas City Current game – it meant everything to me, obviously. And get this – Brittany, one of the owners, was *there* watching with us! It was just… perfect. Seeing her support the team on such a special day? I’m still buzzing about it!

Patrick Mahomes received two awards at the 2023 ESPYS: Best NFL Player and Best Male Athlete. His team, the Kansas City Chiefs, was named Best Team.
