Inside Pink and Carey Hart’s Wild Love Story Before Breakup

Oh my gosh, Pink says it’s like Carey Hart stole her heart from the very beginning! And honestly? She totally let him! She was completely okay with it, a willing captive, and it’s just the sweetest thing ever. I’ve always known they were meant to be!

In a 2020 Instagram post, the singer of “Just Give Me a Reason” explained that he and his partner have stayed together for so long because of their shared, unwavering belief in things. He described marriage as a complex mix of emotions – sometimes awful, sometimes wonderful, often comfortable but also filled with anger. It can be boring, scary, and incredibly stressful, but ultimately it’s about loving someone who isn’t perfect while also working on loving yourself, and continually choosing to work through things together for the rest of your life.

Even after going through two difficult separations, the couple—who celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on January 7th—continued to sit together publicly.

The former motocross racer revealed in December 2024 that the key to a strong relationship is “communication, having a teammate, and talking through tough times,” he told Us Weekly. He agreed with his wife, essentially saying the same thing.

“Marriage isn’t easy,” he stressed, “and it’s always coming back to the table.”

But sometimes, marriage is knowing when to take a break and walk away.Ā

Several reports from February 26th indicate that the parents of 14-year-old Willow and 9-year-old Jameson are planning to take that step.

Of course, it’s not the first time the pair have folowed separate paths.

After more than twenty years together, Pink has playfully suggested another breakup for her band isn’t out of the question. She jokingly told Ellen DeGeneres in 2016, “We’re due for one.”

This musician is known for being very open and honest, and she seems to understand better than most that life can be painful. However, she’s remarkably good at overcoming challenges—and it’s not just because she often performs while suspended on wires!

The 46-year-old’s younger years were admittedly a jumble of drug use and teenage rebellion.

In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, she described herself as someone who often got into trouble. She said she was known for being rebellious and outspoken, and often found herself in difficult situations.

Let me tell you, back in 2001, right after Pink released her first album, she was at the Summer X Games in Pennsylvania. That’s where she noticed this athlete – he had a similar edgy vibe to her, covered in tattoos and full of energy. He was attempting a backflip during the competition when, unfortunately, he had a pretty bad crash, breaking several bones and ribs. But, believe it or not, he still managed to win her over! It just goes to show, a little vulnerability can be incredibly attractive.

The next four years were a rollercoaster for them, filled with constant ups and downs. As Pink described it, they spent that time figuring out if they would build a life together or go their separate ways.

Things got so heated between them that the singer ended up with what she called her most ridiculous injury ever. As she explained on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she damaged her hand while angrily hitting the tires of his Ford truck.

She described getting through the first part of the Thanksgiving altercation okay, noting his truck was large and had big tires. However, during the second part, she lost some energy and accidentally cut her hand on the blade of a knife.

Even after being apart for a year, Pink and Hart were still deeply in love. During a race in 2005, Pink proposed to him. As Hart came around on his third lap, she held up a pit board with a message: “Will U Marry Me?” When he didn’t respond right away, she quickly added to the sign on his fourth lap: “Serious!”

He remembered sharing his reaction in a 2014 Supercross interview. He’d said, “Well, yeah, of course,” and his wife had replied, “Get back on the track! I don’t marry losers.”

On January 7, 2006, six months after their initial connection, they officially got engaged during a beautiful sunset ceremony at a resort in Costa Rica.

Their perfect ending wasn’t quite here yet; they still had one final challenge to face.

In 2008, the couple took another 11-month break due to their busy work lives. As she explained in a 2013 interview with Redbook, they barely had time to see each other. Carey would visit for only five days, then be gone for six weeks, and they tried to resolve all their issues during those short visits, which she admitted just wasn’t realistic.

So she went big, summoning him to her Las Vegas hotel room.

She explained that she’d created a photo album filled with every card he’d ever given her and pictures from throughout their relationship. It even included a photo from a video shoot where she was injured, which she’d captioned, ā€œThis is me without you.ā€ She also put the divorce papers – which she never actually signed – inside the album. As a final touch, she said she made the album while wearing his favorite lingerie.

After getting back together, Pink and her husband welcomed their daughter, Willow Sage, in June 2011, followed by their son, Jameson Moon, in December 2016. Suddenly, Pink, who had built her career on being a rebel, found herself on the verge of becoming exactly what she’d always fought against—a typical suburban mom—and she couldn’t have been more content.

She told Us Weekly in 2017 that she was surprised by how much she was enjoying the responsibilities of motherhood. ‘I never expected to be a soccer mom and actually like it,’ she said. ‘It’s something I didn’t even know was possible!’

She found happiness in a new life that included caring for her 25-acre vineyard in California’s Santa Ynez Valley, encouraging her daughter Willow at school, and enjoying time with her mom friends, often over drinks.

She shared with Redbook in 2019 that after moving to a charming small town, they quickly made friends with a diverse group of people – teachers, insurance agents, and writers among them. Their kids attend school together, enjoy sleepovers, and the adults all share a fondness for tequila.

The artist was surprised to find herself taking on traditionally parental roles, like making treats for school bake sales and being the primary disciplinarian.

She playfully told People magazine in 2018, while on their “Most Beautiful” cover, that her husband had promised she wouldn’t be the ‘strict one’ in their relationship, but he hadn’t quite managed that. ‘He’s the fun one!’ she explained. ‘I’m the one who brings the rules.’

However, he’s also quick to share their story on Instagram, publicly thanking his wife, who acted as his nurse, for being his support during recovery from his 2020 shoulder surgery.

And when everything is less than amazing between them, he’s willing to admit his role.Ā Ā

She told USA Today in 2017 that her husband is self-aware and always apologizes when he’s made a mistake, which she admires. She admits she’s different – she often pushes things too far and struggles to say sorry, making marriage to her challenging. She describes him as the stable one and herself as more volatile, but ultimately says their dynamic is enjoyable.

She’s been able to combine her work travel with family vacations, and even overcame a serious case of COVID-19. In a conversation with Justin Sylvester from TopMob, she shared that they got through the pandemic by focusing on each day as it came.

Their relationship thrived because they actively chose to be with each other. She explained, “I’m very lucky to have such a great partner. But it’s not that we need each other – we want to be together.”

Still, there were times in their union when forever felt like an awfully long time.Ā

Sometimes, when I look at Hart, I’m struck by how steady, reasonable, and dependable he is – he’s a truly solid person. He’s a good man and a wonderful father, everything I expected of him and more. But then, completely out of the blue, I’m overwhelmed by feelings of dislike. I feel like we have absolutely nothing in common, I don’t enjoy the things he does, and I just want to be away from him.

As with most problems, time proved to be the cure-all.

Pink shared that relationships have their ups and downs. She said things can be going wonderfully, and then you might find yourself going a long time – even a year – without intimacy, which can make you question the relationship and your attraction to each other. She emphasized that maintaining a monogamous relationship takes effort, but that effort can revitalize things and make it good again.

For over two decades, they shared a relationship full of ups and downs. Let’s revisit their exciting story.

Okay, let’s talk about something that really frustrated me recently. I shared a sweet beach photo of my son, and honestly, the reaction from some people was just awful. They started commenting on whether he was wearing a diaper, and even bringing up personal choices like circumcision! As a mom at the beach, I honestly didn’t even notice he’d taken it off – I was just enjoying the moment. It was incredibly upsetting to see such negativity, so I deleted the photo and I’m seriously rethinking how I use social media. It’s shocking how some people feel entitled to comment on other people’s bodies and parenting choices, and it’s just…disgusting. I even sarcastically posted about a pelican to highlight how ridiculous the whole situation was. It just makes me shake my head at the state of things and the negativity some people bring online. It’s a reminder that we all need to be kinder and more respectful.
