With season 4 of Invincible ramping up the conflict of the Viltrumite War – mirroring the storyline from the comics – everyone is focused on Thragg. He’s expected to be an even greater threat than Conquest, the formidable villain from season 3.
Thragg, the Grand Regent, leads the Viltrum Empire and is considered the strongest Viltrumite in the comics. He’s as brutal as his immense power suggests.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible and an executive producer on the show, recently gave us the same heads-up.
Before the start of season 4, Kirkman and co-showrunner Simon Racioppa explained to TopMob what sets the villain Thragg apart from previous challenges for Mark, and also revealed more details about the Viltrumite race.
Kirkman explained that Thragg is incredibly powerful, almost like a force of nature, and represents a danger greater than anything Mark has ever dealt with, including Conquest.
This season, we’ll learn a lot more about the Viltramites – their culture, motivations, and everything that drives them. I think this deeper understanding will help viewers grasp the importance of what’s happening and how the universe functions, making it a truly exciting time.
In the recent season 4 trailer, Nolan warns, “No matter how powerful you believe yourself to be, Thragg is more powerful.” While we won’t reveal any spoilers about what’s coming from the comics, it’s worth remembering that even Conquest, the most fearsome opponent Mark has faced so far, was deeply intimidated by Thragg.
Racioppa expanded on Kirkman’s idea, explaining how overwhelming it will be to face Thragg and the entire Viltrumite race. He pointed out that so far, we’ve only seen the impact of individual Viltrumites like Anissa, Nolan, and Conquest. Now, imagine all of them arriving, potentially led by the strongest, most skilled, and most formidable Viltrumite of them all.
We’ve been hinting at this for a while, and we thought it was finally time for you to meet everyone else.
As Nolan mentioned to Allen after their escape from prison in season 3, fewer than 50 Viltrumites with pure bloodlines remain. Even with such a small number, if they all turned against Earth, it could spell disaster unless Mark, Nolan, and their allies are ready.

Okay, so season 3’s ‘Invincible War’ was absolutely wild! It threw twenty evil versions of Mark at us, and things got really messy. We saw twelve of them go down, but it came at a huge price – cities were leveled, and we even lost some heroes, like Rex Splode, which was heartbreaking. Honestly, if Angstrom Levy hadn’t managed to trap the remaining eight Marks in another dimension right when they were turning on him, I’m pretty sure those last few would have been enough to completely take over the world. It was a close call!
Considering Thragg’s immense power, he would almost certainly defeat the remaining eight Invincible Mark Graysons, especially since they were still relatively young at around 19 years old.
Considering he can summon around thirty-six highly trained Viltrumites, each with centuries of experience, the Invincible version of Mark Grayson will face challenges that test his limits like never before.
