When Invincible returns for its fourth season on Amazon Prime Video in March 2026, one of the main villains will be played by a new actor. The show, based on Robert Kirkman’s popular comic series, will focus on the long-awaited Viltrumite War. So far, five villains have been announced for Season 4, with Lee Pace reprising his role as Thragg, who will be the primary antagonist facing off against Mark Grayson, voiced by Steven Yeun.
Aaron Paul, who played a character in Invincible‘s Powerplex episode, recently told Kinda Funny Games that he won’t be returning for the show’s next season. This means Amazon Prime Video will need to find a new actor to play the role of Scott Duvall if he’s still planned to appear in the upcoming fourth season of Invincible.
Paul, who was a fan favorite in Season 3, explained that he was invited back for another season of Powerplex, but ultimately declined because he found the experience too emotionally draining.
They want me to return for another season, and honestly, I’m a huge fan of the show – I really enjoy watching it. However, being on it was incredibly draining and took a toll on my mental health.
Even though he’s leaving the show, the Emmy-winning actor expressed great admiration for Invincible. However, he wasn’t comfortable with the idea of continuing to play the character Powerplex.
I admire what they’re accomplishing, but Powerplex is clearly facing a lot of personal struggles. I always try to deeply understand a situation by imagining myself in it, and this was a difficult perspective for me to embrace, honestly.
Paul is right to point out the difficulties Powerplex is facing. The villain Invincibile has good reason to be angry with Mark Grayson, especially because the damage caused by Mark’s heroic actions led to the deaths of two people Invincibile cared about.
The actor, known for his work on Breaking Bad, explained his departure from Invincible straightforwardly: he simply didn’t want to continue with the show, despite liking the people he worked with.
I didn’t want to keep doing it. I really care about the people there – everyone at that camp is wonderful – but it was taking a toll on me, and I just couldn’t continue like that.
Season 4 of Invincible will likely start around issue #65 of the comic book series. It seems the season will continue beyond the next appearance of the character Powerplex in issue #81, unless a comment from Paul was actually about a potential role in Season 5. Invincible has changed voice actors before, sometimes replacing well-known actors with lesser-known ones. This could happen with Powerplex as well, and we may not know who’s voicing the character in Season 4 until the season premieres.
Every Major Invincible Character Who Has Been Recast
Powerplex: Aaron Paul To TBA

I’m really looking forward to seeing Scott Duvall’s story unfold! It’s tragic, but fascinating – he’ll try to turn things around by joining a somewhat ragtag group of heroes, The Actioneers. Of course, things don’t go as planned, and he’ll end up breaking out of prison to face Invincible one last time. It’s heartbreaking knowing it all leads to his powers overwhelming him and, ultimately, his death.
The story arc Paul mentioned could be used in Season 4, or potentially moved to Season 5 after the Viltrimite War is finished. This would give the team time to find a good replacement for the actor if needed.
D. A. Sinclair: Ezra Miller To Eric Bauza

D.A. Sinclair is a brilliant scientist who thinks technology can solve all human problems. This led him to develop ReAnimen – cyborgs resembling zombies – originally for the Viltrumites. After working with Cecil Stedman, he’s now creating these ReAnimen using corpses for the Global Defense Agency (GDA).
Ezra Miller, famous for playing The Flash, originally played the role in Season 1. However, Eric Bauza took over for Season 2, and many believed this change was due to the increasing public controversies surrounding Miller at the time.
Titan: Mahershala Ali To Todd Williams

Mahershala Ali, known for his role in The Green Book, first appeared in Season 1 of the show as Titan, a tough enforcer working for the crime boss Machine Head. He returned in Season 3 as the new head of the criminal empire, but this time was voiced by Todd Williams. While the reason for the voice actor change wasn’t explained, many believe it was due to scheduling conflicts or budget limitations.
It’s interesting to note that this isn’t the first time Mahershala Ali has stepped in to replace Keith David in a role originally intended for him. When there were difficulties getting the Blade movie made at Marvel Studios, Ali voiced a version of the vampire hunter in Marvel Zombies. This has led some fans to question whether Ali will ever get the chance to play the live-action Blade, a role he was first announced for six years ago.
