The first episode of Invincible Season 4 made a significant change to a key conversation between Mark Grayson and Eve’s father, Adam, regarding Eve Wilkins and her relationships. Mark and Eve’s connection has been a core part of the Amazon Prime Video series Invincible, evolving from friendship to romance. Their relationship deepened in Season 3 when they became official, forming a strong partnership that helped them defeat Conquest in the season finale.
Like many relationships, Mark doesn’t always get along with Eve’s father. In Season 4 of Invincible, Mark has an uncomfortable conversation with Adam, Eve’s dad, after a difficult family dinner, where they discuss how close Eve came to dying while fighting Conquest.
Adam confessed he strongly dislikes that Eve has powers and feels upset about her near-death experience, which he attributes to someone associated with Mark – specifically, Conquest. He essentially blames Mark for what happened to Eve.
I can’t stand that she’s one of your kind, but I have to give her credit – she’s incredibly tough. She’s been through countless fights and always wins. I suppose she inherited that from me. At least, that was true until now.
Mark: “What do you mean?”
Adam: “Broken legs, broken face. In a coma. All thanks to one of your friends.”
Mark: “They weren’t my friends.”
He said she wasn’t doing well even before she risked her life to help you, and then that crazy person ripped her apart.

Adam clearly dislikes Mark, especially since he previously blamed Mark for losing his job. This happened when their workplace was destroyed during the intense battle between Mark and Omni-Man at the end of the first season in Chicago.
Eve’s father warned Mark about dating her, pointing out that Samantha—presumably Eve—had nearly died twice, and both times Mark was involved.
Basically, Samantha has come close to dying twice, and both times you were involved. If you care about her, it might be worth considering that.

The conversation between Mark and Eve’s dad in Season 4, Episode 1 of Invincible differs significantly from the original comic book. In issue #68 of Robert Kirkman’s Invincible comic, their discussion centered around whether Eve was still a virgin.
Eve’s father thanked Mark for continuing to date her despite knowing she wasn’t perfect and wasn’t a virgin. He even admitted he’d caught Eve with her ex, Rex Splode, and that Rex had been secretly living with them for some time.

Eve’s father would then bring up her virginity, emphasizing that she didn’t grasp “how important virginity is to a woman.” Adam confessed he might not have married his wife, Betsy, if the circumstances had been different – meaning, if she hadn’t been a virgin.
The next scene showed a deeply upset Mark, and he seemed reluctant to discuss with Eve what her father had told him about virginity.

The Amazon Prime Video series made a good decision leaving out Adam Wilkins’ monologue. It’s deeply unsettling and expresses harmful, misogynistic views, particularly the idea that a woman’s virginity has value as a possession.
This unsettling scene highlights how even normal family moments can seem frightening when contrasted with the show’s intense and violent action.
New episodes of Invincible Season 4 premiere every Wednesday on Prime Video at midnight PT.
Why Eve’s Big Twist Reveal In Invincible Season 4 Changes Everything
The end of Invincible Season 3 hinted that Eve’s powers weren’t working as expected after the battle with Conquest. It was later revealed in Season 4, Episode 3, that Eve was pregnant, and this explained the issues with her abilities.
Considering the already strained conversation between Mark and Eve’s father, a pregnancy would understandably make him even more protective of Eve, especially now that the news has significantly raised the emotional stakes for both his daughter and his future grandchild.
Okay, so Eve’s father gave Mark a serious heads-up about the dangers of being a superhero – he laid out everything that’s happened to Eve, and it was pretty intense. Honestly, I think this is going to push him to really try and convince Mark to hang up the cape, or at least make him feel vindicated if something goes wrong. It’s shaping up to be a classic ‘I told you so’ situation, and I’m curious to see how Mark reacts.
Eve’s pregnancy will force her to make some difficult and impactful choices, and she may lean on her parents for help. This is happening while Mark is preoccupied with the escalating conflict with the Viltrumites in space, leaving him less available to support her.
It was a smart choice for the show to avoid focusing on Adam’s past relationships. This makes him seem more sympathetic and less unsettling, which is especially important now that his pregnant daughter needs his support.
