Mark Grayson is set to return to the small screen following the devastating events of Invincible’s third season finale. Licking his wounds following the fight against the deadly Viltumite known as Conquest, the titular hero has bigger worries on his plate than one alien invader. While Invincible’s fourth season had been confirmed in the past to land this March, Amazon Prime Video has spilled the beans on the official release date for Mark’s comeback. Alongside the release date confirmation, the new trailer gives us our first look at the villainous Thragg in action, and Mark’s life will never be the same as a result.
The fourth season of Invincible will arrive on March 18th this spring, and promises some exciting new developments. This season will see Mark venture into the underworld – a storyline not featured in the original comics – and finally introduce Thragg, the powerful king of the Viltrumites. Voiced by Lee Pace, Thragg is set to be a central figure in the new season, and the trailer suggests we’ll be seeing the beginnings of the epic Viltrumite War arc from the comics.
The Invincible World is Getting Bigger
This week, Invincible announced more than just Mark Grayson’s return for season four. A new villain, Universa, has been cast, joining established threats like Thragg and Dinosaurus. Danai Gurira, known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play Universa, an alien who plans to drain Earth’s energy to save her own civilization. Though not as powerful as some of the other new villains, Universa will still present a significant challenge for Mark and Eve.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, recently shared that the animation quality will continue to get better with each season. He explained that as the show’s animators become more familiar with his vision, the visuals will evolve. He believes the epic fight at the end of season three gives a glimpse of what the show is capable of, and the team is aiming to consistently reach that level of quality as the series goes on. He’s excited for viewers to see the improvements in future seasons.
Robert Kirkman has previously said he’d like the Invincible animated series to last between seven and ten seasons. Considering the extensive comic book source material, fans may only have seen a fraction of the story so far on Amazon. No matter how long the show runs, viewers can definitely expect plenty more intense and brutal action in the seasons to come.
I just saw the new trailer for Mark Grayson’s return this spring, and I’m really curious what everyone else thinks! Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and head over to the ComicBook Forum to join the discussion!
