Invincible Star Had No Idea How “Rough” Season 4 Would Be [Exclusive]

The animated series Invincible is known for its surprising and violent moments, and viewers anticipate more of the same in the upcoming fourth season. While the first three seasons delivered many unforgettable and emotional scenes, one of the show’s actors recently hinted that season 4 will bring even more unexpected hardship.

ComicBook’s Chris Killian recently spoke with Invincible star Steven Yeun (Mark Grayson, Invincible) about whether he’s ever surprised by parts of the story when the scripts come in. For Yeun, it’s always a surprise, and in season 4, things have been a bit rough for Mark. “I actually didn’t read all the comics. I remember when I first got on Walking Dead, Robert sent me like three of the omnibuses, and then I read, like, two of them, but I didn’t read the rest. And then when I got cast in this [Invincible], I didn’t. I was like, ‘Oh, I want to kind of keep it separate, “Yeun said. “And so I’m surprised as I go, to be honest, I’m experiencing this comic as Mark is experiencing his life. So, you know, it’s a rough one right now, but maybe it’s looking up, I don’t know.’”

Invincible Season 4 Will Divert From The Comics In A Major Way

The TV series Invincible generally follows the main storyline from the comic books, but season 4 will introduce some changes. The return of Damien Darkblood at the end of season 3 is a key part of this shift. Darkblood, who was sent to hell in season 1, is back, and his reappearance will allow the show to explore a story that creator Robert Kirkman has long envisioned.

In the Invincible comic series, the character Darkblood wasn’t permanently sent to hell. Robert Kirkman, the creator, always planned to bring him back for a story involving Mark Grayson. However, other projects kept getting in the way, and the timing never felt right. Kirkman envisioned every superhero narrative needing a confrontation with the devil, and it seems fans will finally see that storyline with Darkblood in the fourth season, following the events of season 3.

What really elevates the show is getting Bruce Campbell to voice the demon, although Robert Kirkman hasn’t confirmed if it’s actually the devil. Plus, Clancy Brown returns as Darkblood, giving fans a team-up between him and Invincible that never happened in the original comics.

It’s a real treat, especially for viewers already familiar with the Invincible comics and universe. This story keeps even dedicated fans guessing, adding an exciting element of surprise to what was already shaping up to be a fantastic season of television.

The first three episodes of Invincible season 4 will premiere on Prime Video on March 18th, with new episodes becoming available each week after that.
