Invincible: Good Vs. Bad

I watched the fourth episode of Invincible season four, “Hurm,” and a lot of people seemed to think of it as a bit of a detour. The feeling was that because this storyline wasn’t in the original comic, it didn’t really move Mark’s character forward – especially compared to his conflict with Damian Darkblood. While the episode did give us more insight into Damian’s past and showed a really unique version of Hell, many viewers probably saw it as a pause before the main story really kicked off again this week.
The fourth season’s fifth episode of Invincible was particularly well-received because it successfully combined the show’s signature intense action with heartfelt emotional moments. A key part of this was the return of Nolan Grayson, also known as Omni-Man, to Earth – his first appearance since the first season. This allowed viewers to see how characters reacted to his comeback, and his ex-wife, Debbie, was notably unhappy about it.
It would be impossible to talk about the war between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrumite Empire without mentioning the incredibly violent scenes that surprised and upset many viewers. The long-awaited rematch between Conquest and Mark was exactly as brutal as fans expected, staying true to the show’s style. Although Mark ultimately defeated Conquest, the villain inflicted serious injuries, leaving Mark’s survival for the season finale very much in question.
