In tonight’s thrilling episode of Emmerdale, airing on the 21st of August 2025, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) finds himself in a desperate situation where he must flee for his life.

On last Wednesday, I found myself hitching a ride to the train station from good old John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth. Little did I know, there was an unexpected surprise waiting for me in his van – a photo album!

In an unexpected turn of events, Mack was taken aback when he realized that the moving man who handled the belongings of the late Nate Robinson, identified as Jurell Carter, was none other than Ben (Jacob Anderton). What added to the surprise was the discovery that Ben was not only a fellow mover, but also a close associate or comrade of John!

Mack only needed that information to see the picture clearly, understanding that John had likely arranged for Ben to falsely accuse Owen Michaels of hiring him, which ultimately led Mack to suspect John of murdering Nate.

Immediately following this nerve-wracking instance, John will soon realize that Mack has figured everything out without much delay.

How far will John go to protect his secrets?

It appears that Mack is on the verge of learning something significant, as suggested by a trailer released by ITV earlier. The trailer depicts John challenging Mack regarding his new discovery.

Mack is then seen rolling downhill in the woods, hoping to get away from John’s clutches.

At the close of the clip, John is seen clutching a rock. As Mack pleads for mercy, John appears ready to employ it as his next deadly instrument.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the adrenaline pumping as we join our protagonist in this nail-biting chase. But will he manage to evade danger and avoid becoming John’s latest tragic victim? The suspense is killing me!

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve been pondering the intriguing interplay between the New Year flash-forwards and Mack’s harrowing chase for life in our series. Robb, the talented actor portraying Mack, mentioned that while we caught glimpses of several flashbacks last New Year, the one showing Mack in a frantic run hasn’t graced our screens in an episode thus far.

“We actually filmed that flashback last October and we finally will be seeing it within the show.

In the initial flashback scene, it was unclear as to whom or what Mackenzie was pursuing – whether he was in hot pursuit of someone else or fleeing from a person or situation. However, soon enough, the truth behind his actions will be disclosed.

In these scenes, Mack appeared ill-prepared for winter weather. However, this was justified on-screen as he grew chilly while repairing a freezer at Butler’s Farm. To maintain continuity, Robb endured the additional warmth for the sake of the storyline.

The scene with a flashback was shot in October, but back then we were uncertain about its exact placement within the timeline of 2025.

To ensure that any potential issues with hair consistency are avoided, since there’s a chance I might sport a mullet by the year’s end, we opted to put a beanie hat on Mack.

During our summer’s peak, while shooting this specific episode, donning that beanie became necessary for me. Consequently, I found myself sweltering, and I couldn’t help but share my overheated predicament.

“But I’m excited for the audience to finally see it unfold and how it fits into Mack’s storyline.”
