Fallout 76 initially received a lot of criticism, but it’s improved significantly over the years and now has a large and growing player base. If you’re wondering if you can play with friends on different platforms, we’ve got all the details on Fallout 76’s multiplayer options!
Fallout 76 is experiencing a surge in popularity thanks to the new Fallout series on Prime Video, now in its second season. The first season was so successful that it inspired the Fallout 76 developers to create a special in-game event featuring Walton Goggins’ character, The Ghoul.
Fallout 76 has been steadily improving with updates, and producer Bill LaCoste believes the game is now genuinely good. This latest update is just the newest step in that positive transformation.
So, you’re probably wondering if you can team up with friends from other gaming platforms to earn all the trophies in Fallout 76. Let’s find out!
Is Fallout 76 cross-platform?

Fallout 76 doesn’t support cross-platform play, so players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation can’t play together. However, players on Steam and Xbox Game Pass can play with each other on PC.
Unfortunately, you can’t transfer your progress between consoles. Even if you use the same Bethesda account on a different platform, you’ll need to start a new character, as your saves are tied to the specific console you’re playing on.
If you want to play Fallout 76 with your existing friends, be sure to get the version of the game that works with their platform. Otherwise, you might end up needing to purchase it twice, or you could always make some new friends to play with!

How does Fallout 76 multiplayer work?

In Fallout 76, you can play with up to three friends and complete adventures throughout the ruined landscapes of West Virginia.
In your team, you will have six goals to choose from:
- Hunting
- Roleplay
- Events
- Exploration
- Building
- Casual
If you enjoyed building things in Fallout 4, you’ll be thrilled with Fallout 76’s building mode – it’s even bigger and better, letting you create really amazing bases.
The game server holds up to 24 players, and you can battle others once you’ve reached a specific level.
Other players might attack your base, so be prepared to defend it. If you’d rather avoid conflict, you can activate ‘Pacifist’ mode to prevent other players from interacting with you.
There are quests and in-game events too, with Bethesda regularly bringing out new content.
