Rumors are spreading online that the free-to-play game Highguard might be shutting down. Player numbers have dropped quickly since the game launched in late January. This led developer Wildlight Entertainment to lay off most of its employees last week, and now many believe Highguard won’t be available for much longer.
Many players are worried that Highguard might be shutting down soon, and the reason centers around the game’s website. It’s been offline since this morning, and while Wildlight Entertainment hasn’t given a reason, this could mean they’re preparing to close the game’s servers.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the game were to close down. Player numbers for Highguard have dropped dramatically, falling almost 99% in recent weeks. Steam Charts data shows the game once had nearly 100,000 players at its peak, but it only reached around 1,600 players in the last day. These low numbers suggest Wildlight, the game’s developer, is likely considering the future of Highguard, and it may ultimately be shut down, similar to what happened with PlayStation’s Concord.
Is Highguard Still Online?

As of today, Highguard is still playable. You can currently find matches and play on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. While we don’t know how long this will last, the game isn’t expected to shut down anytime soon.
When Wildlight first released Highguard, they shared plans for new content – including maps, characters, and weapons – that was expected to be released through the end of 2026. However, with recent layoffs impacting many of the developers who worked on Highguard, it’s currently unclear if those plans will still move forward.
