The trailer for J.J. Abrams’ new movie, The End of Oak Street, has just been released, and fans are speculating if it’s actually another Cloverfield film in disguise. Abrams is known for many successful projects, but the Cloverfield series has been particularly impactful lately. The franchise has a history of turning unrelated horror movies into Cloverfield installments, and with the series becoming more secretive, many believe The End of Oak Street could be the next one.
Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway lead the cast of The End of Oak Street, a new film where a typical suburban street—and its residents—suddenly finds itself in a strange, dangerous land populated by dinosaurs. The movie is directed and written by David Robert Mitchell, known for his work on It Follows. While the sci-fi dinosaur premise has generated buzz, the secrecy surrounding the plot suggests there might be more to the story than meets the eye.
Could The End of Oak Street Be A Cloverfield Movie?

With J.J. Abrams involved in The End of Oak Street, many fans have wondered if it’s actually a Cloverfield movie in disguise. Previous Cloverfield films, like 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox, began as unrelated projects before becoming part of the franchise, which has led some to see Cloverfield as a series of standalone sci-fi horror stories. The film The End of Oak Street has been in development for a while, so rumors about what it really is have been circulating for quite some time.
A new movie was announced in March 2023, and people immediately started guessing what it would be about. Its original title, Flowervale Street, offered the first hint. The words “clover” and “flower” refer to plants, and “vale” and “field” describe landscapes where plants grow. Adding to the mystery, another Cloverfield project is also in the works, leading many fans to believe this movie might be connected.
Despite some speculation, The End of Oak Street likely won’t be the next Cloverfield film. J.J. Abrams has repeatedly stated the next installment will directly follow the original Cloverfield. This suggests Paramount is no longer turning unrelated scripts into Cloverfield movies, a practice they started to move away from before releasing The Cloverfield Paradox. Both Overlord and A Quiet Place were considered as potential Cloverfield films but ultimately became their own independent projects.
Honestly, what really makes me think this new movie, The End of Oak Street, isn’t connected to Cloverfield is that Paramount Pictures isn’t part of it. It’s being made by Warner Bros. and J.J. Abrams’ company, Bad Robot. Bad Robot did work on the other Cloverfield films, but Paramount actually owns the rights to that franchise. So, it seems pretty likely this new one is a completely separate story.
The End of Oak Street Is Still Exciting, Even If It’s Not A Cloverfield Movie
Even though the new film likely isn’t connected to the Cloverfield series, it’s still generating a lot of buzz. David Robert Mitchell is a talented director, and this will be his first movie in several years, following 2018’s Under the Silver Lake. He’s known for the incredibly original horror film It Follows, so it will be interesting to see his take on science fiction with a larger, more ambitious project.
J.J. Abrams is producing a new movie called The End of Oak Street, and even if it isn’t connected to the Cloverfield series, it’s still exciting news. Abrams is known for his suspenseful storytelling, which some people debate, but it has led to some incredibly popular sci-fi films and shows. Projects like Lost, Cloverfield, the 2009 Star Trek movie, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens are all fan favorites, and fans are hoping The End of Oak Street will be just as good.
The actors in The End of Oak Street are exceptionally skilled, promising some truly impressive performances. Anne Hathaway, known for her roles in films like The Devil Wears Prada and Brokeback Mountain, stars alongside Ewan McGregor, famous for Moulin Rouge!, Big Fish, and Doctor Sleep. The children in the film will be played by rising stars Maisy Stella, who recently appeared in My Old Ass (2024), and Christian Convery, known for his work in Sweet Tooth, Cocaine Bear, Invincible, and Frankenstein. With such a talented cast, The End of Oak Street is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of 2026.
