Is Pokopia on Switch 1? Nintendo’s weird loophole explained

Pokopia appears to be a perfect game for fans of both Pokémon and Animal Crossing. However, it can be difficult to play on the original Nintendo Switch.

Getting Pokopia to work on the Switch is tricky. There’s a technicality with Nintendo that makes it possible, but it requires a few extra steps. We’ll explain how below.

As Nintendo releases more games that you can only play on its systems, like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Kirby Air Riders, the Switch 2 is looking like a more and more appealing purchase.

If you haven’t gotten a Nintendo Switch 2 yet, be sure to look for the best Black Friday deals and find out where to buy one.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 is released, you’ll be able to enjoy Pokopia with up to three friends in a cooperative four-player mode, alongside many other new games for the system.

Is Pokopia on Switch 1?

Pokopia is not on Switch 1, but you can play it via Switch 2 GameShare.

GameShare lets you stream a game from one Nintendo Switch to another – either a newer Switch 2 or an older Switch 1. It’s similar to classic split-screen gaming, but on separate consoles. The main Switch does all the processing, and the second console displays the game and lets a player control it independently.

Keep in mind that GameShare only works with the Switch 2 and original Switch when you’re playing together in person using a local wireless connection – it doesn’t work online.

GameShare on the original Switch requires players to be physically together. However, Switch 2 owners can use GameChat to share games online.
