Spoiler warning: This story includes details of the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season two finale.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place fans may be hoping this is not what it seems.
The second season of the *Wizards of Waverly Place* sequel series premiered on Disney+ on October 8th, and the finale included a surprising reveal: Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) is Billie Russo’s (Janice LeAnn Brown) mother. Fans were stunned by this twist.
In the season finale, Billie is kidnapped by the villainous Lord Morsus (Tobias Jelinek), who compels her to create a gateway between the magical and real worlds. Her brother Justin (David Henrie) and his wife Giada (Mimi Guanopolos) rush to help, along with Justin’s sons, Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko), but Morsus quickly captures them all.
Watching Billie struggle with the magical portal, Alex starts to cry and opens a locket she’d discovered earlier. When the locket opens, everyone in the room suddenly remembers something – that Alex is actually Billie’s mother.
The biggest surprise wasn’t over yet: it turns out Alex erased everyone’s memories to keep Billie safe from Lord Morsus. And even more shockingly, Lord Morsus is Billie’s grandfather – her evil father, Damian Penwolf.
Despite all the chaos in the news, Justin’s son, Milo, manages to cast a spell that frees everyone. However, by then, the gateway to the dangerous magical world has grown too large, and someone must enter it to seal it shut.
Following a heartfelt farewell to Billie, Alex fights Morsus, and they both fall through the closing portal.
After learning the upsetting news, Billie receives comfort from her Uncle Justin and his family. Though Billie fears Alex may be gone, Justin offers hopeful reassurance, promising her they will find her mother eventually.
Even though fans are going through a lot of ups and downs, David – a producer on the show alongside Selena – reassured them that the Russos are known for quickly resolving any issues.
David hinted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 8th that Alex Russo will face unexpected challenges, and that the upcoming series, #WizardsBeyond, will have plenty of exciting twists. He encouraged fans to keep asking questions and promised magical surprises are on the way.
You can now watch *Wizards Beyond Waverly Place* on Disney+, and new episodes will also air weekly on Disney Channel. But that’s not all – here’s what else you should be checking out…
