Is Shetland returning for season 11? Alison O’Donnell “can’t reveal anything”

When Douglas Henshall said he was leaving “Shetland” before season seven, a lot of viewers likely questioned whether the show could continue successfully without its popular star.

Season eight was already happening, and Ashley Jensen was announced as the new lead detective, DI Ruth Calder. But many wondered if the BBC crime show could still succeed without its original star, Perez.

However, she quickly stopped worrying, particularly when the show was renewed for another two seasons.

She recalled watching the first episode of season eight with her kids still awake. She went to another room to watch it and ended up crying. Sitting alone, she wept with a mix of relief and pride, feeling that the episode far exceeded everyone’s expectations.

I expected some disagreement, and honestly, there wasn’t nearly as much as I thought there might be.

But what of its future now?

O’Donnell stated they couldn’t share any information, and Jensen confirmed they weren’t the right people to answer those questions.

I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen, and I’m not expecting anything specific,” she went on. “You know what I think? We should just focus on enjoying right now and not get caught up in things like who’s more popular, or whether or not the show will continue.

“You’ve got to just be be here and know and enjoy what we have.”
