Mike Wheeler is on the market.
The actor who plays a role in Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard, has disclosed some unusual details about his personal life and declared that he is currently involved in a relationship.
In an interview with Variety, published on August 5th before the fifth and final season of the Netflix TV series, Wolfhard shared that he is currently single. He added that this stage of his life, which he’s been working the hardest, has him pondering various aspects, including his relationship status.
Now that his stint as Mike Wheeler, the main character, in the supernatural thriller is nearing its conclusion, Wolfhard has started contemplating a more committed approach to dating.
The actor pondered, “Perhaps it’s been a sort of unconscious choice-what word should I use?-premeditated?” He explained, “To remain single. Even though I’m 22, I don’t feel ready yet to tie myself down…Also thinking about my busy lifestyle that includes constant traveling and work.” He added, “Given how things are going, it just doesn’t seem like the right moment for a relationship.
It’s clear that Wolfhard has a packed schedule ahead for the upcoming months, as he gears up to promote the November 26 premiere of “Stranger Things.” Regarding his last day on set, the actor from Canada hinted that his final scene would bring joy to many viewers.
In a revealing statement, Wolfhard shared that everyone present experienced genuine happiness due to an unspecified event, saying, “There was a point when I felt an overwhelming joy that touched everyone.” He continued, “As I exited after filming the scene, it ranks among the most memorable moments of my life. The intensity of the emotions prevented me from fully processing it at the time. There was much celebration with champagne afterward.
Wolfhard’s remarks resonate with the sentiments Noah Schnapp (the actor who plays Will Byers) expressed earlier about their last day filming together as a group.
As I stepped onto the set for the first time, it felt like just another day, but boy, was I wrong! The last day on set, though, oh boy, it was nothing short of extraordinary. That day will forever be etched in my memory. It was a mix of emotions – profound sadness and an overwhelming sense of perfection all at once.
Amongst the cast, comprising Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, and David Harbour, who shed the most tears during their emotional goodbyes on set?
Schnapp jokingly implied, ‘It might be me.’ He explained, ‘I’m quite emotional. The fact that everyone was weeping… Well, we care deeply for one another, which makes saying goodbye difficult.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’d share this fascinating tidbit: Following their collaboration on M. Night Shyamalan’s Fox series, Wayward Pines, the gifted writing duo Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer conceived the idea for Stranger Things, which was originally known as Montauk.
In my experience, it can be incredibly challenging when your mind is firmly fixed on a particular concept or title, as I discovered back in 2016 when discussing with The Daily Beast. The title we chose for our project, Stranger Things, initially faced resistance from many, finding acceptance proved to be quite the uphill battle.
Initially, I had pictured capturing the essence of our series on the scenic landscapes of Long Island. However, upon closer examination, it turned out that the logistics were simply too complicated for a smooth production process.
Matt shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “We found Montauk appealing due to its coastal scenery, as it served as inspiration for Amity, and ‘Jaws’ is our all-time favorite film. I thought it would be quite exciting. However, I realized that filming there or nearby during the winter would be unbearable and costly.
Atlanta ultimately became the home base for production.
Prior to Netflix acquiring the series, approximately 20 networks initially declined the project, as reported by Vulture. It seems that industry executives doubted whether viewers could become emotionally involved in a show centered around four young characters.
4. To play Eleven, then 12-year-old Millie Bobby Brown had to say goodbye to her hair.
2018 at PaleyFest, the actress stated that shaving her head was the most impactful experience of her life. She explained that as she chopped off the last strand, it was a revelation because she could no longer hide behind her hair like before. When she looked in the mirror, she understood her mission: to inspire. She expressed that beauty doesn’t necessitate having hair.
5. She found inspiration in Charlize Theron’s portrayal in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, along with the vintage images of her co-star, Winona Ryder, from her yearbook days.
Winona was quite stylish in the past with her pixie haircut, and she mentioned that it crossed her mind if she could revive that look!
The British actress shared that she utilized an unexpected influence to master her American accent: Miley Cyrus’ character from Hannah Montana. She praised this during a chat with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, stating, “It’s fantastic! Everything about it is incredible. And I managed to get the American accent.
The Duffer brothers asked young actors to perform scenes from Stand By Me during auditions as a way to select their primary four child characters.
Initially, when it came to envisioning their character named Mike, the brothers held distinct concepts. However, this all changed once Finn Wolfhard auditioned.
In 2016, Matt stated to The Daily Beast that initially, Mike was similar to Mikey from The Goonies in many aspects. However, Finn had a unique, somewhat nervous and restless demeanor that they found intriguing. They decided to tailor the character to suit Finn’s personality and this anxious energy.
Another actor who significantly shaped his role was Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin. As Matt put it, “I don’t believe we fully grasped who that character was initially. He started off more like a stereotypical nerd, but once we met Gaten, we adapted the show to suit him.
As a devoted fan who couldn’t get enough of Eleven’s Eggo waffle preference, I can attest that Kellogg’s sales soared remarkably following the show. They reported a 14% surge in consumption towards the end of 2017 after season two debuted, with October being the month that saw the highest number of social media mentions about their product in a single month.
Around the beginning of 2018, David Harbour gained significant online attention when he agreed to take part in a fan’s senior photos as promised, following her request on Twitter. She asked, “How many retweets for you to take my senior photos with me,” and he responded, “25k. And I get to wear the school sweatshirt and hold a trombone.” True to his word, the actor honored this commitment.
24 years after high school, he posted on Instagram, saying something like, “Predicted as the one to photobomb classmates’ senior pictures years later.
12. Toward the end of that year, Harbour found himself engaging in more antics on social media. This time, he officiated a wedding for one of his followers, requiring 125,000 retweets and the first piece of wedding cake as payment. He even got ordained to perform the ceremony while dressed as Chief Hopper.
13. Fans often speculated that Eleven might be Hopper’s biological daughter, but later, he functioned as her foster father instead. In a delightful nod to continuity, Eleven donned a blue bracelet resembling Hopper’s at the school dance in the season finale of two, where it was made from his deceased daughter’s hair ribbon.
Eleven’s first kiss in season one, with Mike, was also Millie’s very first kiss. She confessed that it was quite an unusual feeling, “It’s a bit overwhelming to have 250 people watching you kiss someone, I mean, it’s like, ‘Wow!’
15. When they were required to kiss once more in the next season, she disclosed what her co-star had whispered into her ear at that moment.
During an interview on The Tonight Show in 2017, she described that he indicated he was about to kiss her. He said, ‘I’m moving towards you,’ and it was as if he was a ventriloquist! It was really surprising,” (or simply: “He told me he was going to kiss me, and then he moved like a ventriloquist on The Tonight Show in 2017.”)
Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, portraying on-screen lovers Nancy and Jonathan, started dating back in 2016 and have primarily preferred to keep their romantic life under wraps.
In a conversation with Refinery 29, I shared that this particular matter holds significant importance in my life, be it with my loved ones or friends. I tend to cherish and hold onto it personally. Additionally, I acknowledged the intrigue of collaborating with someone who shares the same roof as me, and I always find it an enjoyable experience.
17. Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t initially planned for Joe Keery‘s character, Steve Harrington, to survive beyond the first season.
However, during the filming of season one, we developed a fondness for him which led us to create the storyline where he assists Jonathan and Nancy in their rescue mission. As initially planned, Steve was meant to be a typical jock bully, but Joe proved himself to be far more complex than that.
18. Also slated to perish was Eleven. Yes, really.
Ross stated in the 2018 book Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down that Eleven was prepared to give her life to save the day. This had been the plan all along, but as they anticipated the show might continue beyond one season, they decided to keep it ambiguous because they believed the series wouldn’t be as effective without Eleven. As they came to understand Millie’s unique talent, they knew that if there was more Stranger Things, Eleven needed to return.
As an ardent admirer, let me share a fascinating behind-the-scenes tidbit: The seventh episode of season two, aptly named “The Lost Sister,” teetered on the brink of not being aired at all! In an interview with Vulture, the Duffer brothers expressed their apprehensions about this installment. You see, it revolves around Eleven embarking on a quest to locate another child who had undergone similar experiments, and they feared that this deviation might disrupt the narrative’s rhythm.
Matt clarified that when it came time to draft the episode, they questioned if it was truly necessary. Initially, they considered discarding the entire episode altogether. However, the ending with Eleven didn’t resonate effectively; it simply fell flat. Ultimately, they concluded that the episode was essential after all.
11’s brother was initially intended to be male, as suggested by the original title of the episode, “The Missing Brother.
As one of the many young hopefuls who auditioned for the role, it turned out to be me, Linnea Berthelsen, who secured the part. Consequently, the episode culminated in Eleven encountering her “sister” Kali, a character I had the privilege of portraying. Matt, our director, shared that he and Millie Bobby Brown felt a strong bond between us, with Millie expressing her desire to work together on this role, saying, “I want to do this with Linnea.
Initially, actress Nicola Coughlan tried out for the character Robin in Bridgerton, but she ended up landing the role of Penelope Featherington a few years later. Maya Hawke eventually got the part as Robin, and Nicola admitted that Hawke was “much more suited” to the role than she would have been.
She commented, “Actors should learn this: Study the parts you didn’t win, as you’ll clearly see that rejections aren’t about you personally. It’s simply a matter of fitting or not fitting for certain roles.
In the role of Sarah, on Netflix’s Outer Banks, I, Madelyn Cline, previously graced our screens as the notorious Tina, the mean girl from Hawkins High School in a past season.
To secure the role of Billy, the flamboyant older stepbrother of Max (played by Sadie Sink), Australian actor Dacre Montgomery showcased his talent in an entertaining yet slightly provocative audition video. He shared with GQ that he aimed to create a big impression with the Duffers.
Filming himself dancing clad only in a G-string to iconic ’80s tunes such as “Come on Eileen” and “Hungry Like the Wolf”, Dacre initially hesitated about sharing it, stating, “Either I’ll never work again or someone somewhere will appreciate something unique about me and give me an opportunity.” Fortunately, his gamble proved successful.
Moving into its third season, Deadline revealed that the cast members were given significant salary hikes. The younger actors, initially earning around $30,000 per episode, now receive over $200,000 and potentially even up to $250,000. On the other hand, Winona and David are said to be earning approximately $300,000 to $350,000 per episode, while Natalia and Charlie are reportedly making between $100,000 and $150,000 per episode.
25. Originally, Priah Ferguson was slated to appear in just one episode during season two as Erica, Lucas’ lively younger sister, but the Duffer brothers continually found opportunities to include her. Eventually, she became a main cast member for the next season.
As the series was being filmed, the wardrobe team encountered a distinctive problem due to the fact that the younger actors were still maturing, necessitating adjustments in their costumes for consistency.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I can tell you from personal experience how challenging it can be when a child outgrows their shoes at an astonishing pace. It’s simply astounding! Just the other day, I had a little one who seemed to sprout half a size every three weeks. The struggle was real in finding shoes that fit, but I found a clever solution: seeking out timeless brands that offer the same product in various sizes. By purchasing multiple pairs, we were always prepared for growth spurts and ensured our young ones never went shoeless.
As the Duffers subtly paid tribute to The Goonies, E.T., and Stand By Me, they made sure not to make their references overly obvious.
In my role as a dedicated follower, I shared with The Daily Beast that when we pitched our project to Netflix, we crafted an approximately two-and-a-half-minute trailer, which seamlessly intertwined around 20 to 30 movies in an attempt to depict the captivating narrative of Stranger Things. These were the films that shaped our childhood and left indelible marks on our genetic makeup. However, when we gather in the writers’ room to work on specific episodes, there’s minimal discussion about referencing other movies. Instead, we focus primarily on telling the story, allowing the characters to lead the direction, lest it becomes a chaotic and disorganized jumble.
The creative group aimed for minimal special effects to evoke an old-school vibe, yet swiftly discovered the challenge in doing so.
Initially, our plan was to use only practical effects, but what struck us – and we must admit, we hold those who worked on films like ‘The Thing’, ‘Alien’, and others in high esteem for this – is that doing practical effects is extremely challenging,” Ross stated. “It requires a significant amount of time and preparation. Despite our best efforts to produce scripts swiftly, they didn’t have half a year to prepare such tasks. By the time we arrived on set, many ideas that seemed perfect for old-school techniques, simply couldn’t be executed due to lack of time.
From the start, the Duffers planned a five-season storyline for the show. As we reach the end of this series, much of what they conceived in 2015 is now unfolding, as stated by Netflix executive Matthew Thunell to Variety. Notably, each episode in season four is estimated to have cost around $30 million.
Though a conclusion for “Stranger Things” has been decided upon, the Duffer brothers aren’t quite prepared to say goodbye to the world of the Upside Down just now.
In a recent email interview with Variety, they shared that they’ve got an intriguing concept for a spin-off they can’t wait to unveil. However, they’ve kept it under wraps so far – not even written yet. Matt and Ross revealed that Finn has already caught a glimpse of the series idea, which they described as being “extremely unique.” They emphasized that apart from Finn, no one else knows about it.
