*Warning: Major spoilers ahead for It: Welcome to Derry episode 5.*
Bill Skarsgård is back as Pennywise in ‘It: Welcome to Derry,’ and the premiere didn’t fail to deliver for fans.
Throughout the series, inspired by the Stephen King novel, the frightening creature has shown up in many guises, often appearing as the embodiment of Derry’s deepest fears. However, it fully revealed its iconic Dancing Clown form in the fifth episode.
After Matty went missing, the group has been dealing with frightening experiences. The latest episode brings a glimmer of hope when they discover someone who appears to be their friend, alive and well – though things might not be as they seem.
The group decides to try and rescue the other children Pennywise has captured, and Matty, though hesitant, guides them into the sewers. There, they discover a shocking truth: Pennywise has been disguised as a child the entire time.
The show creators took a gamble by delaying Skarsgård’s full appearance, but it paid off. We finally see the terrifying Pennywise we’ve been waiting for, directly confronting the kids in Derry.
Viewers reacted positively to the latest episode, with one fan praising the careful introduction of Pennywise on X (formerly Twitter). They wrote that the five-episode build-up and reveal were well-done, and appreciated that the show didn’t overuse the character, demonstrating its ability to succeed even without relying heavily on Pennywise. The fan used the hashtag #ITWelcomeToDerry.
Viewers loved the latest episode, with many calling it fantastic and hinting at even more exciting things to come. One person praised a particular reveal as perfect, adding that the show is consistently improving.

Okay, Pennywise is here, and wow, what an entrance! This isn’t your average, friendly clown; this one preys on your deepest fears and genuinely terrifies you. I’m absolutely loving the atmosphere they’ve created with #WelcometoDerry – it’s fantastic!
In the fifth episode, our heroes faced serious danger, and Leroy nearly made a tragic mistake, almost harming his son.
As for how much longer they can survive? Only time will tell.
It: Welcome to Derry continues on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Mondays.
