
The author fondly remembers watching a cut-scene from Resident Evil: Code Veronica. They first saw it on a demo disc for the Dreamcast, and it remains a cherished memory.
Oh man, you know the one I’m talking about! It’s that iconic intro with Claire Redfield making a run for it as a helicopter is blasting away at everything around her, sending glass flying everywhere. Seriously, a classic moment!
Although the game eventually came to the PS2 with extra content, it remains a hidden gem within an otherwise incredibly influential series. You can experience the original version today on the PS4, complete with Trophy support.
Rumors of a remake have been circulating for a while, particularly after the successful modern updates of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.
Nick Apostolides, the voice of Leon S. Kennedy, thinks fans would be incredibly excited – and possibly overwhelmed – if the 2000 game were to be updated with modern graphics and gameplay.
He told PC Gamer, as reported by Games Radar:
I’d love to see a remake of Code Veronica. It was a really tough game, but the story was incredibly unique and strange. I think reimagining it with modern graphics and storytelling techniques – especially using the RE Engine and more realistic acting – would be amazing. Seeing that game brought to life with today’s technology would be incredible, and I think fans would be absolutely thrilled if it were announced.
Code Veronica was definitely a challenging game. However, the Dreamcast version was highly praised, and many reviewers considered it the best Resident Evil title of its era.
A remake should feel true to the original game, but with some improvements – especially when it comes to frustrating parts, like those pesky moth enemies!
