Sony has openly discussed its ongoing efforts to enhance the PS5 Pro, with a particular focus on improving its PSSR upscaling technology.
Since its launch in 2024, the system has received a varied response. Some games really shine with the improved hardware, but others haven’t lived up to expectations.
According to a source who spoke with the tech news site Moore’s Law Is Dead, upcoming hardware upgrades promise significant improvements. The developer, who wished to remain anonymous, described the changes as “huge.”
Sony is planning to release an updated version of its PSSR technology next year. This upgrade, developed in collaboration with AMD as part of Project Amethyst (which is also contributing to the development of the PlayStation 6), will significantly enhance image quality.

This improvement allows for sharper images even with incomplete data, meaning it can still create a clear picture from a flawed original. As a bonus, it uses less memory and speeds up processing on graphics cards.
Basically, this new version gives you a better-looking picture faster, and it doesn’t hog as much memory. As a fan, that sounds amazing to me – it fixes a lot of the things I’ve been hoping for!
Sony recognizes that some games have been experiencing visual glitches, known as artifacting. To help developers address this, they’ve created a tool for faster detection. The idea is that by finding these problems more easily, they can be resolved much quicker.
The main drawback is that current games will likely need updates to work with these new features, meaning you’ll need developers to add support for them.
If Sony can get this technology to Rockstar Games quickly, there’s a good chance GTA 6 will launch with these features. And that would likely drive a lot of sales for the PS5 Pro.
