As a DC fan, I’ve been so happy with how things are going lately, and a big part of that is the new Superman movie! James Gunn really nailed it, bringing these characters to a wider audience. What I loved most was how the film just dropped you into this rich, established world with so much history hinted at – it felt like a real comic book universe. Honestly, it felt more like DC than even Marvel has managed. It wasn’t just about a new Superman, either; we got a glimpse of a potential superteam, the Justice Gang, which is super exciting!
The new team, The Justice Gang, feels like a mix of the classic Justice League and the more recent Terrifics. It’s likely this group will eventually become the Justice League in the movies. What makes it special is that it’s different from anything we’ve seen in the comics so far, and I believe it should be introduced to comic book readers quickly. It’s a fantastic concept that really fits with the direction the publisher is heading.
The Justice Gang Could Be the JLI Reborn

The Justice Gang, made up of Superman, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific, gained a new member, Metamorpho, by the movie’s end. The series also introduced financier Maxwell Lord through the character Peacemaker. This team dynamic felt similar to a beloved Justice League lineup: the Justice League International. First appearing in 1986 after the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, this version of the team was the primary Justice League focus until the early 1990s, with some members continuing until around 1996. The JLI holds a significant place in DC Comics history and is considered one of the most enjoyable teams ever assembled.
The Justice Gang felt very similar to the Justice League International, with its mix of bickering and humor, but ultimately, they always worked together to do what was right. They were a standout part of the movie, especially Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. They added a much-needed element of fun, and that’s exactly what the comic books are looking for.
DC Comics is once again emphasizing the Justice League as central to its universe. They’re using a lot of different team lineups for various missions, essentially creating many ‘Justice Squads.’ These could be made up of existing, lesser-known Leaguers like Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, Gardner, and Metamorpho, or entirely new heroes who don’t necessarily want to be part of the main Justice League. Currently, the comics are dealing with very serious, end-of-the-universe stakes in the DC K.O. storyline, so introducing a lighter, more humorous team after that event would be a welcome change.
I’ve been hoping DC would bring back that fun, quirky vibe of the old Justice League International, and I really think this new ‘Justice Gang’ is the answer. It feels like the perfect fit! While someone like Mister Terrific is a big shot in the current League, he’d be hilarious as the serious one surrounded by goofballs. Plus, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Metamorpho don’t seem to have much going on right now, so it’s great to see them included. I’m especially intrigued by the idea of bringing Lord back as a hero – that could be a really interesting story. Superman is a bit too powerful for this team, but Jon Kent, his son, is perfect! He’s funny, and gets to carry on the ‘Superman’ name. It’s clear the publisher is trying to do something new, and I think the Justice Gang could be exactly what they need to shake things up.
The Justice Gang Is Perfect for Modern DC

DC Comics is poised to surpass Marvel in both comic book sales and film popularity. While DC is currently experiencing strong sales, they lack a consistently funny superhero title. A comic featuring a comedic take on the Justice League – a ‘Justice Gang’ – could fill that gap. Many Justice League members aren’t heavily featured in current storylines and share similar personalities, allowing them to easily reprise their roles from the movies in a humorous format with similar appeal.
DC Comics has a long history of creating hilarious and memorable comics, with iconic characters like Lobo and Ambush Bug, and a decade-long run of a funny Justice League. They’re due for another comedic team, and the Justice Gang fits the bill perfectly. A new funny superhero book is much needed, and the Justice Gang’s name should attract plenty of readers to comic shops. This team is launching at just the right moment.
